I’m not sure if letter writer Jeff Smith is dumb, devious or confused. Maybe all three.
Because after reading his Oct. 26 letter about the Gilbert school override, I’m sure he has no clue about the facts behind the election.
Here’s why: Smith calls the override a “6.6 percent pay raise.”
Besides the fact that no pay raise is involved in the override, Smith should know — though it might be beyond his grasp — that the override only maintains the current funding.
It is no increase at all. In fact, if it doesn’t pass, the district faces millions in budget cuts.
Smith’s so-called arguments might work on right wing social media outlets, where facts are inconvenient and emotion rules, but here in newspaper land, his fiction shouldn’t be tolerated.
