It would appear that the despicable attack on Herman Cain was effective toward the accomplishment of the three goals that were sought.
First, it damaged the campaign of a popular presidential candidate, increasing the likelihood that President Obama would face a weaker opponent.
Secondly, it subtly advanced a perception that all the Republican candidates are flawed.
And finally, and most critically, it publicly punished a conservative and thoughtful African-American for daring to leave the Progressive plantation.
Blacks are a vital element in the Democrat constituency, and progressives are fiercely jealous of their loyalty. Any politician, or other public figure of that race, that dares to question the wisdom and goodness of the Democrat Party is a threat to the dominance of that party over the hearts and minds of racial minorities. Thus, the heresy of individual thought must be stamped out relentlessly. Conservatism is anathema in any form. But in a black mind it is a threat that must be dealt with mercilessly and without regard to ethics or morality. We saw that with Clarence Thomas and it is now being rerun with Herman Cain.
I pray for a triumph of reason and decency over unscrupulous politics and unethical journalism.

What's wrong with the perception that all Republican candiates are flawed? Since Goldwater ran -- THEY HAVE ALL BEEN FLAWED.

..WASHINGTON (AP) — In an explosive allegation, a Georgia woman said Monday she and Herman Cain had a 13-year extramarital affair that lasted nearly until the former businessman announced his candidacy for the White House.
"Here we go again. I didn't do anything wrong," Cain said in a pre-emptive denial that lumped the accusation in with others of sexual harassment.
But the woman, Ginger White, said in an interview with Fox 5 in Atlanta that over the years, Cain paid for her airplane tickets so she could join him in different cities.
"It was fun," she said. "It was something that took me away from my humdrum life at the time. And it was exciting."
If Cain does not disprove these allegations, and surely those claiming payment of travel expenses can be disproven, he's toast. Or maybe 30 day old pizza crust!
