I went out to greet Obama at his speech at Desert Vista High School on Tuesday with one simple message: reject the Keystone XL Pipeline. His speech was about housing, but this affects my home, and yours. The 181 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emitted each year as a result of the pipeline will exacerbate the drought, record heat, and wildfires that already plague our state.

Moreover, the pipeline is a commitment to a dead energy system. As long as we continue to feed our addiction to oil with new pipelines we will keep America from becoming the leader in the new energy world economy. Arizona has the most solar capacity installed per capita in the country: the energy revolution is already here. It would be foolish to turn back to the fossil economy when a bright new path is emblazoned in front of us.
