Michelle Obama says she is determined to use the wonderful megaphone she has as First Lady to “highlight the plight of military families and encourage Americans to do more.” ... Too little, and way too late, Mrs. Obama, to start acting like Betsy Ross.

Where has our First Lady been for the past two years? The “plight of military families” has always been there.

Mrs. Obama has managed, though, to enjoy 10 vacations in that time period. Does anyone remember seeing her visiting any military families at bases, forts, naval stations, Coast Guard stations, military hospitals here or overseas during those two years? How many breakfasts, lunches, teas or dinners has our First Lady hosted for military families?

She has managed to appear on the Oprah Show and host a Motown celebration though. She has started an Obesity Awareness Campaign (I guess overweight children come before military families in need).

What does this “too little, too late” campaign for military families consist of? Encouragement. Yes, folks, Michelle Obama is going to “encourage businesses, non-profit groups and celebrities and others to pitch in and help.” Pitch in where? Help how? Our First Lady has one of the most impressive educational histories of any past First Ladies. She has a B.A. from Princeton and then went on to get a law degree at Harvard. She is briefed on everything so why has it taken two years to acknowledge “the plight of military families.” Her husband, the president of the United States, is also commander in chief of the military.

So apparently the addage "Better late than never" does not apply to humanitarian actions! Guys, your position is appalling and down right pathetic! And to think your thoughts were printed on Mother's Day! Why don't you send a copy of these thoughts home to your mothers?

Why is too late ceniceros? It is never too late to lift up our military and their families. This area of our service has been neglected for far too long through several presidencies... Not just the Obama administration. And now that she is standing up, you criticize? Why are you not criticising the past several first ladies who did nothing? And another thing, why would she not encourage non profit groups and celebrities too help? You act as though she can sign a bill or propose one to congress that will wave a magic wand and the plight of military families will be over. At best, she is an ambassador with very little power in the government other than doing what she is doing now, becoming a voice.... of several causes I might add. Overly criticizing a person because you feel it is too "little too late" is a defeatist attitude. Maybe her efforts are nothing more than window dressing but she did bring it out in the open. Let me ask you? What have YOU done to help, have you written your congressman, organized a benefit for the local V.A. etc.? One more thing. Slab, I assume your witty name calling, "Kool aid Obamatards" refers to the very nasty name "retard" which in the realm of mentally ill individuals is used to put them down by people who feel inferior about themselves. Really, it is neither witty nor original but a very tired attempt by the extreme right to put down the other side.

Unlike so many who carry satistics everywhere, I do not do so, but I seem to recall, on many occasions, that Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Biden have been very active in the cause of military families.

Simply calling for people to "prove that they did," is intended to cast doubt, but I think you are incorrect. It's also belligerent, and to what end? To prove that they don't care?

That attitude alone makes people less likely to believe you. Sounds like an agenda to me.

I was listening to a program the other day where historian Doris Kearns Goodwin spoke of the fact that she is disappointed in news publications for not doing more to recognize our soldiers. She described how her son is serving and so, therefore, she understands the anguish that families live with who have loved ones on the front lines of battle.

It is true that PBS is the only broadcast service that continues to honor and remind us when a life is lost while in the act of service to the United States.

Thanks Leon (I believe this is the best you can do) for keeping us informed of the fact that Michelle Obama, with her exposure to the world, also recognizes the ‘plight of military families and encourages Americans to do more. ‘

Speaking of "too little too late", Leon, where have you been these last two years? First Lady Michelle Obama (I bet you get mad every time you hear this name!) has been working on these programs, the Obesity Awareness programs (remember the garden she taught the children to grow) and helping the military families since her husband, President Barak Obama took office.

The "Let's Move" anti-childhood obesity program was begun more than 1 year after she walked into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

She didn't begin a program for our Military Families until 1 year after her "Let's Move" program. The Military Families Program began on...........April 12, 2011....more than 2 years after her husband was sworn in as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

She has managed to take.......10 Vacations in that time period. Those are the facts Ma'am....nothing but the facts.

    For Heaven's sake, Leon.

She's the mother of two young children. Why don't you give us a summary of First Lady projects going back to Ellanore Roosevelt? She pretty much started it all. I remember some of her work, and some of Lady Bird Johnson's. Hillary Clinton wrote a book on the importance of community involvement in raising children. What have the Republican wives done? Sew and knit?

I refuse to acknowledge her as any type of role model. She wants to dictate what Americans eat yet indulges herself to no end.
In addition, she is a disbarred lawyer. In my book, that's lower than a snake oil salesman.

Here is another reason that first lady is trailer trash:

"First Lady Michelle Obama has scheduled a poetry evening for Wednesday, and she’s invited several poets, including a successful Chicago poet and rapper, Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr., AKA “Common.”
However, Lynn is quite controversial, in part because his poetry includes threats to shoot police and at least one passage calling for the “burning of then-President George W. Bush."

This afternoon, First Lady Michelle Obama spoke to the Joint Armed Forces Officers Wives Club, highlighting military families’ remarkable strength and unyielding support. She reflected on the roundtable discussions she and Dr. Jill Biden held with military spouses that provided guidance for developing initiatives for President Obama's 2011 budget.

She discussed an issue near and dear to her heart as First Lady, and that is the challenges faced by America’s veterans and military families, particularly as they transition to civilian life.

Ed. Note: First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden are asking all Americans to take action to support our Nation's military families. By donating refurbished desktops, Operation Homelink is helping families stay connected to loved ones during deployment -- just one of the many ways people are stepping up to support our military families.

Operation Homelink, a nonprofit 501(c)3, presented 150 refurbished desktops to families of deploying service members on April 3 at the St. Cloud National Guard Armory.
“The Minnesota National Guard’s State Family Programs Office identified 150 families that would be left without computers during their loved one’s deployment,” said Army Cpt. Jackie Stenger, Family Programs Officer, Minnesota National Guard.

First Lady Michelle Obama answers questions from children of federal workers participating in "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day" in the East Room of the White House, April 28,
Each April, thousands of Americans participate in Take Your Child To Work Day. For folks who work at the White House, some of their kids got the chance to meet First Lady Michelle Obama, and ask her about her job.
The First Lady answered questions about the White House garden, about her Let's Move! initiative, her favorite things to do with Bo, even how she chooses her wardrobe. She also talked about the inspiration for starting the Joining Forces initiative with Dr. Jill Biden.

Michelle is more diverse than you are leon, she is able to focus on more than one thing so her activities are both, not either-or. Her goal was to make progress in reversing the 21st century trend of childhood obesity. She stated that her goal is to make this effort her legacy: "I want to leave something behind that we can say, ‘Because of this time that this person spent here, this thing has changed.’ And my hope is that that’s going to be in the area of childhood obesity." She has named the movement "Let's Move!". This effort does not supplant her other efforts: supporting military families, helping working women balance career and family, encouraging national service, promoting the arts and arts education, and fostering healthy eating and healthy living for children and families across the country.

Slab- Michelle is not disbarred and she would have too much class to dispute your close familiarity with trailer trash. Her law license has never been "handed over." Records show that Michelle Obama voluntarily took her law license to "inactive" status. This is not the loss of license, but a suspension with the option (though not the requirement) to reactivate the license later. In Illinois, voluntary inactivations require an order of the court to commence the cancellation of malpractice insurance, annual licensing fees and the continuing education credits otherwise required by law. Because she did not intend to continue practicing law there was no reason to continue carrying those liabilities after 1993.
