Regarding the letter to the editor: “Can you just ask for a 6 percent raise?”

My wife and I are both teachers. The fact is that Gilbert teacher salaries have been frozen for the last five years. This amounts to a 25 percent pay cut when accounting for conservative inflation. Hence, your assessment of a “raise” for teachers is off 31 percent. Sounds like you need to go back to school and brush up on your math... and your facts. Those earning Masters or Doctorates in the last five years haven’t received a dime for their commitment to better education. Where in any employment scenario would this be tolerated? Reasonable compensation for Gilbert’s dedicated teachers is long overdue.
