    John,

Sounds like we are about the same age. When you were in Houston, I was in Fort Worth!

I recall LBJ's predicting with his signing of civil rights legislation the end of the Democratic Party in the South. Who besides Jimmy Carter has emerged as a Democratic leader from the South since then?

Although a registered Republican since 1968, I have always voted for the candidate who seemed to have the most going from them. Such will be the same in 2012. Where President Obama is now a know quantity, Mitt Romney appears to be keeping secrets. Should be interesting to watch the polls both now and after the primaries.

I am ashamed of those of my fellow Republicans who are championing voter id laws where voter fraud is minimal. The problem is not fraud but low turn out. And this legislation seems aimed at lowering turnout. Shame on us Republicans. Don't we stand for democratic [small "d"] principles? We once did.

Have a great time in Charlotte. Nice to know you can catch a direct flight there! I'll be thinking of you while I watch the convention!

The donkey is an appropriate symbol for the Democrats: a bunch of jack a$$e$.

The "party of compassion"? I suppose that's why Red states have much higher contribution rates to charity than Blue states. That's why Biden and other Dem leaders give paltry sums to charity, while Romney gives millions. It was Dems who fought against the civil rights. Dems who ran the KKK. And if you're so proud of Kennedy/Johnson, keep in mind that Obama is no Kennedy. Kennedy would be appalled at the spending of this administration.

You're a teacher? I feel so sorry for your students if that's what you're teaching them. But your side is all about misinformation as reality is the your enemy.

Precisely mesateacher.......hope you ARE teaching your students the fallacy of all that `compassion` rhetoric of the democrats instead of what big government education forces you to teach. Good for you and your students.

    John,
Glad to hear you are a proud democrat and will always be one, and that the democratic party has always taken care of you and yours. But, now that Obama and your democrats have combined the poor and middle class to form the "dependent" class. I wonder how long it will be before the dependent class will vote our country into bankruptcy.

    "while Romney gives millions"

Mesateacher, being a teacher, you should know that factual claims must be supported by...you guessed it...FACTS.

Please present the FACTUAL evidence that Romney gave millions to charity...and please keep it honest and DO NOT include any money he gave that wound up in the greedy hands of the Mormon Church. That shady cult is worth billions and is NOT a charity.

    So, let's have it!

chatmandu002 -- it is the Republicans who are forcing the country into bankruptcy.

Republicans refuse to raise taxes to pay on the debt they created with Bush's unfunded wars and unfunded Medicare Prescription benefit.

Republicans preach " personal responsibility " and then run up massive debts and refuse to raise taxes to pay the debts they made.

Instead Republicans BORROW the money for their wars and programs and leave the debts to the grand kids. God forbid a wealthy Republican had to have his taxes raised to pay for the wars he wanted.

In the past, when we had wars we had income tax surcharges to pay for them.

But Republicans would rather BORROW AND SPEND and then refuse to pay and let the country go into bankruptcy.

Then they can use that as an excuse to terminate Social Security and Medicare completely.

Democratic Party = TAX AND SPEND party
Republican Party = the BORROW AND SPEND party.

    Which is worse?

I'll vote for pay as you go Democrats == that's personal responsibility.

    Republican Party = DEADBEAT party.

Republicans want to scream " spending cuts" but if some money did turn up as a surplus Republicans would claim it proves taxes are too high and demand another tax cut instead of paying on the debt.

My Father and Mother were both Goldwater Republicans. They both worked for Goldwater’s campaign here in Arizona. However, as the southern Democrat continued to infiltrate the Republican platform, my parents abandoned the Republican label. My mother, in particular, became rather liberal. While it is not my natural inclination to view the world as she did, she made me feel just uncomfortable enough to have had tremendous influence on my ideals.

So- Mr. Goodie, in good spirit, me and my mom will be with you at the convention to nominate President Obama to a second term, and I think your mom will be too.

Without doubt, the political process can be very discouraging – it is still worth the effort. It is still important to vote.

    I encourage everyone to vote.

President Obama’s campaign thinks they have a chance to win Arizona in the November election.

But conservative Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has said, "Not on my watch. Arizona is a red state, and we're going to keep it red."

Gov. Brewer has lived up to conservative expectations by putting her governor's signature on a number of conservative causes. Liberal critics called the state Senate Bill 1070 measure racial profiling, while proponents viewed it as enforcing U.S. immigration policy.

In addition to his taxes, Romney has given around 16.4 percent of his income over the past two years to charity through his family charity, the Tyler Foundation. In addition to donations to the Mormon church, here’s where else Romney and his wife Ann donated money: the Boys and Girls Club of Boston, the Center for the Treatment of Pediatric MS, the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Homes for Our Troops, and the Inner-City Scholarship Fund, among others.

So there. And what's wrong with giving to the LDS Church, you bigot.

Good for you, Mr. Goodie! I was raised in a Democrat household, but my siblings went Republican, when they became "professionals", with a vested interest in the status quo. I became a court jester, to the daily noise and extreme polarization of the two-party system.

While I sympathize more strongly with Democrats, in general, I feel that both parties are nothing but pawns in the influence game played by the powerful few. It's kinda like pro-wrasslin'...it's entertaining, but ultimately fixed and scripted.

'I’m proud to be a member of the Democrat party -- the party of compassion'

Lol. Compassion is not defined by how much you spend of other peoples money, or the good intentions of your failed programs.

We are always supposed to judge liberals by their good intentions. Never the results.

We are never allowed to judge churches or religions by their compassionate acts with willingly donated money, only their failures.

    Quite ironic.

......how about the backdoor way General Motors was saved that really just sent billions to the United Autoworkers effectively saving those unrealistic, millionaire maker pensions just like yours and what chatman so eloquently describes.

Yeah, that's the ticket to bankruptcy.

"Boys and Girls Club of Boston, the Center for the Treatment of Pediatric MS, the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Homes for Our Troops, and the Inner-City Scholarship Fund"

Mesateacher, your information is incomplete...and it's quite amusing the pieces you chose to leave out.

In 2010, other than directly to the Mormon cult, the only other "charitable donation" went to the Tyler Foundation - which is a "nonprofit" funded EXCLUSIVELY BY ROMNEY AND PROMOTES A HATEMONGERING ANTI-GAY AGENDA. The money that was given to the Tyler Foundatin actually was funneled to these groups (all ignorant anti-gay groups): Massachusetts Family Institute, Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, and funded heavily in favor of Proposition 8.

Now, there WAS one actual charity that was given money - Operation Kids - but they only got 65k not the millions you claimed.

D+ for purposefully omitted information that pretty much invalidated your original claim...and LOL at calling ME a bigot. What a sad excuse of a teacher you must be if your latest diatribe is any indication.

John: I had been a registered democrat for over 52 years but the democratic party has turned into the party of disunity. These days, if you are not one of the "minority" special interest groups, you are a nothing. At one time, the democratic party was the party of the people. I cannot in good conscience vote democratic this year. If the party leadership ever comes to its senses and drops all of the special interest programs and treats everyone equal, it may regain its true meaning.

You are only one but if you can carry forth that message, there may be hope for it again.

EnRaged you are a bigot. mesa teacher is right.

It's not up to you to decide what is charitable or what's not. Unless of course you're an Obama administration fan who decides who the winners or the losers are, who the disenfranchised are or not. And you just can't get past insulting people that disagree with you - in the most hateful rhetoric possible.

Good for you samkat that you are honest about what you see.

It's disgusting what the democrat party has resorted to to get reelected. Between dogs on roof, accusing Romney of murder, being a tax cheat, creating a faux war on women, and ignoring the constitution by executive fiat to pander to the fringes - it's more of a Saturday Night Live skit than leadership and dignity that is expected of the office.

Poor mcjcpa - full of personal attacks and insults, but sadly, no substance to his delusional rants.

    "a faux war on women"
Yes, because the GOP trying to take away their reproductive rights is a vicious lie with nothing to back it up, right?

Willfull ignorance is shameful and disgusting.

"It's not up to you to decide what is charitable or what's not."
It's not up to the American people what constitutes a charity?

Actually, you're right - which is why "charitable" contributions are so full of fraud and corruption these days.

It NEEDS to be up to us, to weed out these bloodthirsty hate cults (like the Mormon Church, Exodus International, the KKK, etc) from the list of "charities".

EnRaged - I followed your vile comments on the Chick fil A article and it doesn't surprise me that the editors have pulled it. You're the one filled with hate and rage - not the organizations people choose to contribute to. Maybe you should try taking a look in the mirror.

It's none of your business what charities people support as long as it meets the standards of the law. I respect people's right to contribute to whomever they choose - whether it's gay rights, women's rights or the way they choose to worship. Mind your own business about matters that are none of yours.

Willful ignorance is shameful when you can't see through the distractions that the Obama administration has created to keep your eye off of what really matters.

My hat's off to samkat for being honest about the situation and not be blinded by party line.

People are out of work and the amount of people in poverty and on food stamps is staggering. That's what's important to me is to see how much people are hurting and the abject failure of the Obama administration in policy choice and leadership. Not some sideshow issue that has little relevance to keeping your home or providing for your family.

Interesting analogy of the Democrate mascot donkey carrying the load. Though in contrast as they take and distribute and create a greater class of need. I am always interested when people perport that the deficit- yearly 1 trillion and aggregate approaching 16 trillion is merely an error of not having high enough taxes. Please share with mathmatics who and how taxes are raised to offset these numbers. To my knowledge, taking all of the assets of the "1%ers" wouldn't even eliminate the 1 trillion spent more then received in 2012.

Unlikely part of his "Dream". What would he think about the number of Afircan American children born to single mothers whose fathers abandon them and leave them to work through life on their own. Maybe if given the chance, ask President Obama who spoke at least once one the subject where that belongs in the Democratic mantle.
