Supporters of the Federal DREAM Act participate in a candle-light procession and vigil in downtown Los Angeles Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010. The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act would allow the legalization of people who illegally entered the United States before they turned 16, who have been here for less than five years, and who complete at least two years at a college, university, or join the military, among other requirements.

It is sad that you do not mention what happens when someone does not make it through the DREAM ACT steps. It makes me very suspicious of your position and the act as a whole. Politicians treat us as if we are unconcerned and more importantly just stupid. Stop writing one side of the issue unless you admit to that up front.

MOGUARDWATCH,
As you point out, DREAM is a nice idea, but may have some shortcommings. I'll address those shortcomings, ones you may not know about.
In 1975, I have the distinct honor and priviledge as a Platoon Leader to drive one of my enlisted persons to a Federal Court room, there to stand and watch him take the oath of citizenship. Back then the policy was that as a sponsored guest of his brother, who had immigrated before him, he could enlist for two years active duty and have his time in country before becoming eligible to take that oath accelerated.
It was unsual for a 2Lt to chauffer a PFC 50 miles to a Court house. But it made the Post News Paper, not as an inappropriate thing for an officer to do, but as a means to pay omage to a young man who wanted to be a citizen enough to enlist. I have never been prouder. And it didn't hurt that the Public Information Officer and my PFC both hailed from Checkoslovakia.
DREAM may have some holes in it. Few pieces of legislation do not. But during this time of war, we ought to be able to piece those holes up, wouldn't you agree?
Congratulations Tribune Staff. You came down on the correct side of this issue![beam]

Emperior Smith,
Being on duty 24-7, and having an area of responsibility covering most of that state, I was not wasting time. I was on duty as was my PFC. Now if you want to discuss time and money wasting efforts, shouldn't we switch topies to the 2003 envasion of Iraq and today's Afghanistan compaign?

Right. Reread the last lines here" The DREAM path to citizenship is not an easy one; only the most determined and deserving will make it in the end." Hmmm. Is that why only the most deserving get welfare year after year. Guess the government isn't really in a good position to effectively make those decisions.
