Wow...did you hear the president's voice last week when he sang the first lines of "Let's Stay Together" by Al Green? This is one cool dude. In addition to being the "Leader of the Free World" and the "Commander in Chief" of the United States of America, he can also sing, not to mention his hoops skills. How do ya think Jennifer, Randy and Steven would judge the Prez if he stepped out on the stage in the first round. I'm thinkin' that he's goin' to Hollywood!

I don't think it was happenstance that he chose the song "Let's Stay Together" to sing on television. Let's face it, the relentless noise from the wing nut right since the day he took the oath of office has probably taken its toll on the faithful. That's why it's so important that we stay together. There are compelling reasons why President Obama is the favorite in this fall's election irregardless of which candidate gets the GOP nod.

Number 1: The Economy. Americans vote with their wallets. The answer to the question "Are you better off today than you were four years ago?" is the defining moment for any incumbent president. There is no question that the answer in this case is a resounding "YES."

Four years ago, our country was teetering on the precipice of another Depression. Eight years of Bush failures had brought the country to its knees. The stimulus package did work. Increased federal government spending is the primary reason that we avoided a complete and utter financial meltdown and is also the reason that the economy is in full-on recovery mode as I write this commentary. Today, the unemployment rate dropped to 8.3 percent. It will drop below 8.0 percent before summer and it will probably drop another .5 percent to a little under 7.5 percent by this fall's election! By the way, the stock market finished today at 12,862 - an 11-year high! This good news bodes ominous to those nagging nabods of negativism. Hey Mitt, if you don't think the economy is improving, YOU must be on Mars! Obamanomics are working.

Number 2: Housing. Housing is coming back. The Phoenix metro area will experience its first real equity gains since the mid-2000's during 2012. Foreclosures are down. Short sales up. Inventory is at about the same level it was in 2005-2006 when real estate was "flying like an eagle" and would have continued to do so if it hadn't been for predatory lending practices and "liar's" loans. I project a 15 percent real equity gain in housing for 2013. The market has turned. It is now a seller's market.

Number 3: Ending the Wars. The War in Iraq is over and our troops in Afghanistan are beginning to come home. I'll never forget the day in 2003 when I was watching President Bush lie to the American people about the so-called existence of the weapons of mass destruction as being just cause to declare war on Iraq. This wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time is finally over. We will never forget the lost lives, those injured and the trillions of dollars spent on the Bush family's feud with Saddam Hussein. What a horrible injustice to America.

Number 4: National security. President Obama has made America safe at home. This guy has turned out to be al-Qaeda's and other terrorist networks' biggest nightmare. He has talked the talk and walked the walk. Come on ... George W. Bush and his group of losers couldn't track down and kill bin Laden in his eight years of errors. Bush was fixated on Iraq. Hey George, they went that away.

Number 5: Health care reform. The passage of Obamacare is a landmark piece of legislation that will only mark the beginning of better access and more affordable health care for all Americans. No more exclusions for pre-existing conditions. No more cancellations for having the audacity to use your health care insurance. No matter what the ideologues on the right yell about on television, we're not going back to the failed policies of the past. Finally, in my lifetime, we had a president with the vision and the fortitude to lead the fight for our right to health care. If national health care is our birthright, then signing up for the program is our personal responsibility.

Frankly, this list and the good news goes on and on. Think about how far we have come as a culture in the last four years. The end of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and the acceptance of same-sex marriages, medical marijuana, etc. You're right, Newt Gingrich, if you can't stop us in 2012, you might as well fold up your tent and go to Mars. The bottom line is that there ain't no stopping us now. Let's stay together...get on that love train and complete the change of the world as we know it. Peace and love.

I'm surprised you could hear the noise Beydler, with your head so far up Obama's tooshkis.

How can an ex-politician who was recalled within the first year that he was elected the Mayor of Fountain Hills have the audacity to ajudge that Obama is "fit" to serve a second term ???

That's like asking Bill Clinton, JFK, Bobby Kennedy and Teddy to give advice on "marital fidelity"....lol.

What will the Democrats think up next...how about putting the failed Enron CEO in charge of the Federal Reserve bank (oh, that's right...he is in the "clink").....[wink]

    Jon,

Good piece. You raise five points with assertions of fact. And in rebuttal three critics dispute not a single one. Either they were too busy last night, or they have none! Let's see what Wednesday morning brings!

Rich, you propose the place for Jon, you and I to meet. This place is full of nut cases.

    Seems fun Dale,

!) Are you better off today than you were four years ago?" Statistically, no. If your are a homeowner you've lost 30% or more of your equity, if you have any left to lose. If you are a renter. your rents gone up 10%. Food and clothing have gone up eight percent, taxes by 5%, and in realistic terms, you income v. inflation has remained static. The average man is seriously worse off.
    2) Housing is so bad it's scary, the phantom inventory of underwater property is massive and can strike at any time, the value curve is still downward and the only thing that has improved in reality is realtors puff pieces.
    3) Iraq all but kicked us out, and if we leave Afghanistan the Taliban will just return making all the lives, the sacrifice the investment there useless.
    4) Security is terrible to the point where old ladies are assaulted in our airports, by our own government, the TSA is constantly found to be stealing, so you can't take anything anywhere, You taking your life in your hands to fly anywhere.
    5) Medical care in the US is rapidly deteriorating, as hospital, doctors and insurers are shifting the burdens to the shoulders of the taxpayer/patient who is regarded as nothing in the process, Patients misdiagnosed unserved, but liable for bills for nothing. The whole profession is in a nosedive caused by lack of competition or responsibility.

All this courtesy of your President, his policies and his party. "Well there ain't no time to wonder why, Whoopee! we're all gonna die."

Al Green, Animals, Country Joe and the Fish. Who's next?

    Number 1: The Economy:

It's far from back and the it won't be growing at a rate that will help ALL displaced workers since 4 years ago. So are you better than you were before for most folks, "No," especially if you consider the wages of the new jobs being created. Stock market comparisons don't matter since the market hasn't reflected profits except for those who were able to invest when it tanked, which isn't 99% of Americans.

    Number 2: Housing:

Keep dreaming, housing has not recovered and won't start recovering robustly until a couple of years into the next presidential term according to most industry experts and economists. Housing is far from recovered and homeowners can't look at their houses and say I'm doing great.

    Number 3: Ending the Wars:

This is possibly one good point and I won't try to create bluster against the President's accomplishments here because it won't stand if you look at the facts. These wars have been a drain on our country and we need better approaches to these problems.

    Number 4: National security:

We've done a good job outside the U.S. but I have to agree that internally within, the TSA doesn't know what it's doing. We need better approaches instead of having to examine obvious non-suspects/non-suspicious folks. This makes us look paranoid instead of proficient and like we know what we're doing.

    Number 5: Health care reform:

After this past week's forced coverage of contraceptives, et. al., the President has further shown his true colors and makes this act all the more intolerable and cuts right down to the heart of our American existence, the freedom to believe in what we want without government intrusion, especially on non-catastrophic health benefits that require much greater moral responsibility on behalf of people as opposed to serious illnesses like cancer, diabetes, etc... or other non-expected realities like accidents. The President has basically sealed his non re-election bid with this move. He lost much more than what he believes he's gained.

At this point, he doesn't deserve re-election and most likely because of his Al Green impersonation will likely not have to worry about finding employment after next November.

All 5 points you made are either incorrect or falsely attributed to the Failure-In-Chief. Your faith in your false God is amusing, but I think Rich summed up your errors pretty good. I'm surprised even a liberal rag would give you space to spout your BS. Anyone who thinks national healthcare is a birthright should move to the Soviet Union. Oh wait, they failed like every other socialist state has and people like you want that for America?

Leon, if the head of Enron wasn't in jail he would have a nice cushy job in the Obamanation's administration. Don't want to believe that? Read on.

Here's a quick look into the three former Fannie Mae executives who
    brought down Wall Street.

Franklin Raines was a Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Fannie Mae.
Raines was forced to retire from his position with Fannie Mae when
auditing discovered severe irregularities in Fannie Mae's accounting
activities. Raines left with a "golden parachute valued at $240 Million in
benefits. The Government filed suit against Raines when the depth of the
    accounting scandal became clear.

Tim Howard - was the Chief Financial Officer of Fannie Mae. Howard "was a
strong internal proponent of using accounting strategies that would ensure
a "stable pattern of earnings" at Fannie. Investigations by federal
regulators and the company's board of directors since concluded that
management did manipulate 1998 earnings to trigger bonuses. Raines and
Howard resigned under pressure in late 2004. Howard's Golden Parachute was
    estimated at $20 Million!

Jim Johnson - A former executive at Lehman Brothers and who was later
forced from his position as Fannie Mae CEO. Investigators found that
Fannie Mae had hidden a substantial amount of Johnson's 1998 compensation
from the public, reporting that it was between $6 million and $7 million
when it fact it was $21 million." Johnson is currently under investigation
for taking illegal loans from Countrywide while serving as CEO of Fannie
    Mae.
Johnson's Golden Parachute was estimated at $28 Million.
    *************************************************************...

    WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

    FRANKLIN RAINES?
Raines works for the Obama Campaign as his Chief Economic Advisor.

    TIM HOWARD?
Howard is a Chief Economic Advisor to Obama under Franklin Raines.

    JIM JOHNSON?
Johnson was hired as a Senior Obama Finance Advisor and was selected to
run Obama's Vice Presidential Search Committee.

Are we stupid or what? Vote in 2012..it is the most important election of our lives...

When this ex-politician who was recalled within the first year that he was elected the Mayor of Fountain Hills says "You're right, Newt Gingrich, if you can't stop us in 2012, you might as well fold up your tent and go to Mars." and "complete the change of the world as we know it." He's right. If we elect this Obamanation, the fundamental change that this Obamanation promised will happen and you will all be in small cages. Your republic will be a thing of the past and communistic slavery will have won over the free world.

I think the Trib just throws this guy up for fresh meat. I cannot fathom a person actually believing the things this guy writes. Must have an uncommon sense of denial. If Obama wins in 2012 that may be the sign that we have gone off the deep end. The teetering point where people who refuse to take responsibility for themselves have overwhelmed thos who have. I have a greater expectation for the American people and think he will lose.

    Origin of Left and Right

Have you wondered why it is that Conservatives are called the "right" and Liberals are called the "left." By chance I stumbled upon this verse in the Bible: "The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left." Ecclesiastes 10:2 (NIV). Thus sayeth the Lord. Amen.

Can't get any simpler than that.

And, now for a spelling lesson: The last four letters in American; I can. The last four letters in Republican; I can. The last four letters in Democrats; rats. End of lesson. Test to follow in November 2012.

Remember, November 2012, is to be set aside as rodent extermination month.

Actually IGWT, the terms are from the French Estates General, the First Estate, consisting of the Church, the most Conservative, sitting on the right, the Nobles, the Second Estate, the balance, the moderates, in the center, the Commoners, the Third Estate, on the left, the liberals. When it collapsed the middle class, the 'Bourgeois' controlled that wing. Frozen out was the average man, therefore the French Revolution. If you look, you will see it, as the 'church,' the elected officials and the political parties fight with the 'aristocracy,' inherited wealth and the 'bourgeois' the 'nouveau riche' those who made it themselves. They get the mine and the 'average man' gets the shaft. The answer is to join the first estate, work for the government. The 'Church' the first estate owned less than 10% of the production, but controlled 50% of it. That's where we're going. We can figuratively guillotine a President, but until you change the system and gut the power of the first estate, it won't help.

Wow! I am SO devastated that a mayor could also be so willfully or hatefully ignorant of economics. I'm only 33 but remember Clinton having a clear shot to kill Osama and choosing not to. But it's just Republicans that can't catch him, right Jon? And certainly the sercet intelligence tracking Osama all got canned post Bush and Obama figured it all out himself, right?
For someone who loves the president for singing about coming together, you sure write articles that tear parties apart.
That's the least of the flaws though. Your "facts" have, thankfully already been shown to be false. But let me add a bit to the discussion.
My husband is Director of Pre-Op, OR, and Endo at a Valley hospital. They have lost so much money under Obama care that they are now forcing surgeons to use low grade medical products in surgery and some surgeries are being rejected all together because the hospital can't make even $1.00 doing them. Hope you don't need surgery in the next few years under Obama care... scary.
On a personal level, after giving birth last year to a NICU baby with thousands in medical bills, no one would work with me. I was flatly told that under Obama's new laws, they can't work with people with insurance. Only those with no insurance get writeoffs. Doesn't matter if your insurance coverage is minimal. It's been financially devastating. Thanks, Obama.
I need to move to Fountain Hills though! Land of seller's markets! I own two properties, haven't taken 2nd mortgages on either, but am upside down in both. About 12 years forcasted before I break even on one. That's reality. And neither Bush nor Obama can save that. The real estate process has to play out, and until all the overpriced homes are gone, the market will stink. Has little to do with current political voices.
Shame on you for, at your age and status, believing one party has so much power and another so much devastation.
My only compliment is that you find 7.5% unemployment to be a good thing. I'll let my friends know they are actually doing great while in line at food banks. Yes, my friends who all have degrees but can't find work, who can't afford the high price of food and gas now. As long as our president is as popular as reality TV shows, we should be happy too!

Lots of great feedback from commenters -vofreason, rich, particularly vofreason: I think the Trib just throws this guy up for fresh meat. I cannot fathom a person actually believing the things this guy writes. Must have an uncommon sense of denial.

Dale thinks there's not enough facts from the naysayers......seriously? Not one of Jon's points have merit. Numbers have been massaged by the Obama administration and you both drink the MSNBC koolaid. I can fill this column with points to counter his claim but my time would be wasted.

What I know is this. If we don't get this group out of Washington we're doomed as America as we know it. Slowly our freedoms are being trampled and our economy is headed straight for Greece. I've seen Obama's Hope & Change - and all it is is redistribution.

Dependency Index Surges 23% Under President Obama

By JOHN MERLINE, INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY

The American public's dependence on the federal government shot up 23% in just two years under President Obama, with 67 million now relying on some federal program, according to a newly released study by the Heritage Foundation.

The conservative think tank's annual Index of Dependence on Government tracks money spent on housing, health, welfare, education subsidies and other federal programs that were "traditionally provided to needy people by local organizations and families."

The two-year increase under Obama is the biggest two-year jump since Jimmy Carter was president, the data show.

The rise was driven mainly by increases in housing subsidies, an expansion in Medicaid and changes to the welfare system, along with a sharp rise in food stamps, the study found.

"You can't get around the fact that policy decisions made over the past two years, on top of those made over the past several decades, are having a large effect on the pace of growth of the index," said William Beach, who authored the Heritage study.

Government dependence has climbed steadily since 1962, when the index stood at 19. By 1980, the index had risen to 100. It stood at 294 in 2010, the last year for which the data are available. D.C.-based Heritage has produced the index for nine years.

The report also found that spending on "dependence programs" accounts for more than 70% of the federal budget. That, too, is up dramatically. In 1990, for example, the figure stood at 48.5%, and in 1962 just over a quarter of federal spending went to dependence programs.

At the same time, fewer Americans pay income taxes, the report notes. Almost half (49.5%) didn't pay income taxes in 2009, the latest year for which the researchers have data. Back in the late 1960s, only 12% of Americans escaped the income tax burden.

    Other findings:

The number of people dependent on the federal government shot up 7.5% in the past two years.

In 2010, for the first time ever, average spending on dependence programs per recipient exceeded the country's per-capita disposable income.

The dependency index has dipped only seven times in the past 49 years, three of which were under President Reagan and two under President Clinton.

Some observers say the rise in dependence under Obama is merely a reflection of the deep and long recession.

But Beach says his team's research shows that economic effects account for only one-fifth of the change in the index.

A firm overseen by one of President Barack Obama’s trade advisers has just announced plans to export 149 white-collar jobs — including numerous high-tech jobs — to an India-based info-tech firm.

The outsourcing announcement came during an election campaign in which Obama’s allies frequently lash former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for supposedly exporting jobs, and only two weeks after Obama showed he had little understanding of outsourcing in the high-tech sector.

    OBAMA'S COLLEGE CLASSMATE SPEAKS OUT

By Wayne Allyn Root , June 6th, 2010

Barack Hussien Obama is no fool.
    He is not incompetent.
To the contrary, he is brilliant.
He knows exactly what he's doing.
He is purposely overwhelming the U.S. Economy to create systemic failure.
Economic crisis and social chaos -- thereby destroying capitalism and
    Our country from within.
Barack Hussien Obama was my college classmate

He is a devout Muslim do not be fooled.
    Look at his Czars...anti-business..anti- American.
As Glenn Beck correctly predicted from day one!
Barack Hussien Obama is following the plan of Cloward & Piven,
two professors at Columbia University ..
They outlined a plan to socialize America by overwhelming the system.
With government spending and entitlement demands.
Add up the clues below. Taken individually they're alarming.
Taken as a whole, it is a brilliant, Machiavellian game plan to turn the United States into a socialist/Marxist state with a permanent majority,
That desperately needs government for survival ... and can be counted on
to always vote for bigger government.

Why not? They have no responsibility to pay for it.

    Universal Health Care .
The health care bill had very little to do with health care. It had everything to do with unionizing millions of hospital and health care workers, as well as adding 15,000 to 20,000 new IRS agents (who will join government employee unions).

Obama doesn't care that giving free health care to 30 million Americans
will add trillions to the national debt.
What he does care about is that it cements the dependence of those 30 million voters to Democrats and big government .

Who but a socialist revolutionary would pass this reckless spending bill
In the middle of a depression?

    Cap & Trade.
Like health care legislation having nothing to do with health care, Cap & Trade has nothing to do with global warming.
It has everything to do with redistribution of income, with government in control of the economy and a criminal payoff to Obama's biggest contributors.

Those powerful and wealthy unions and contributors (like GE, which owns NBC, MSNBC and CNBC) can then be counted on to support everything Obama wants.

They will kick-back hundreds of millions of dollars in contributions to Obama and the Democratic Party to keep them in power.

The bonus is that all the new taxes on Americans with bigger cars,
bigger homes and businesses helps Obama "spread the wealth around."

Make Puerto Rico a state. Why?
    Who's asking for a 51st state?
Who's asking for millions of new welfare recipients and government
entitlement addicts in the middle of a depression? Certainly not American taxpayers.

But this has been Barack Hussien Obama's plan all along.
His goal is to add two new Democrat senators, five Democrat congressman and a million loyal Democratic voters who are dependent on big government.

Legalize 12 million illegal Mexican immigrants.
Just giving these 12 million potential new citizens free health care alone could overwhelm the system and bankrupt America .

But it adds 12 million reliable new Democrat voters who can be counted
    on to support big government.
Add another few trillion dollars in welfare, aid to dependent children, food stamps, free medical, education, tax credits for the poor, and eventually Social Security .

Stimulus and bailouts. Where did all that money go?
It went to Democrat contributors, organizations (ACORN), and unions -- including billions of dollars to save or create jobs of government employees across the country.
It went to save GM and Chrysler so that their employees could keep paying union dues. It went to AIG so that Goldman Sachs could be bailed out (after giving Obama almost $1 million in contributions).
A staggering $125 billion went to teachers (thereby protecting their union dues).
All those public employees (unions) will vote loyally Democrat to protect their bloated salaries and pensions that are bankrupting America .

The country goes broke, future generations face a bleak future, but Obama, the Democrat Party, government, and the unions grow more powerful. The ends justify the means.

Raise taxes on small business owners, high-income earners, and job
creators. Put the entire burden on only the top 20 percent of taxpayers,
redistribute the income, punish success, and reward those who did
nothing to deserve it (except vote for Obama).

Reagan wanted to dramatically cut taxes in order to starve the government.
Barack Obama wants to dramatically raise taxes to starve his political opposition. With the acts outlined above, Barack Hussien Obama and his regime have created a vast and rapidly expanding constituency of voters dependent on big government; a vast privileged class of public employees (unions) who work for big government; and a government dedicated to destroying capitalism and installing themselves as socialist rulers by overwhelming the system.
Add it up and you've got the perfect Marxist scheme -- all devised by
my Columbia University college classmate Barack Hussien Obama
using the Cloward and Piven Plan ..

One of three things will happen now. 1) Captain Neo-Con will not respond 2) He will totally ignore the facts posted and impress us with more of his thoughtful intellect 3) He will ask for more facts and put his pathetic liberal spin on the available facts. Wait for it. [wink]

He doesn't have to know it, or even be trying, look at history, it's what happens. It will happen with Romney as soon as with Obama. Nothing about Cloward & Piven is new, the Graachi did it in Rome, the Bourbons allowed it in France. It's nothing new, we're just doing it again, like the sheep we apparently are. The problem this time is that the world has nuclear weapons, and this maybe the last time, I don't know. (Rolling Stones, up yours Jon).

Thank you Mr. Beydler for you thoughtful, however mis-guided, letter. As we all are aware, in nature, balance is the key to harmony and existance of superior species. Thank you again, for carrying the torch with those whose intellect and reasoning is nothing to be admired. I applaud your courage to cast your lot with the diluted and whose lack of critical thinking skills is a forgone conclusion. Thank You

    Jon,
Do you get the same tingle up your leg as Chris Mathews does when Obama speaks? LOL
