Guy sees stray dog. Guy feeds stray dog. Guy brings stray dog home because it bonded with him and looks like a recently deceased pet.
Mother hears story and tries to poeticize it with superstitious mumbo-jumbo.
There's a real, touching story to be told here...what a shame.
Rational, Could you please define christian nation for us and using your definition show how the United States isn't and Zimbabwe is a christian nation.
Nice story Linda.
NothingButTheTruch, where are you coming from? I'd define a 'Christian Nation' as a nation where Christian principles are put to practice, both by its residents and by its government, but not so as to infringe on the rights of those of other faiths to put into practice their faith's unique principles. Unfortunately as measured by what we do, the US cannot claim itself to be a Christian Nation. Not sure about Zimbabwe. Don't know enough, but assume you do. So tell us what you know.
"..show how the United States isn't...a christian nation"
Sure thing NBTT...but I've shown you before and you ignored it.*sigh* here we go again:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Tripoli"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion" - ratified by Congress 1797
"show how...Zimbabwe is a christian nation."
Alright NBTT, you got me there - although Zimbabwe is over 85% Christian, they are NOT yet officially a Christian nation...this may change soon though as they are re-writing their Constition as we speak, and the push for the declaration has a vocal (and violent) following - http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/world/2010/August/Zimbabwe-Model-of-Healing--Reconciliation/
RH.....always funny when an athiest calls believing in God "mumbo jumbo".... Me saying that your "religion of coincidence" is sweet but theologically assinine would be equally stupid. But then.....you don't have the gift of "poeticizing" your opinion quite as nicely as Linda. I enjoyed the touching story......the word "god" didn't offend me in the slightest, obviously "choosing to be offended" continues to be the mantra of the church of coincidence......[wink]
things always go better with spellcheck....don't you think?......LOL
Ah yes...insult the atheist by calling his lack of belief a church...
And I will always be offended by the mention of child rapists and murderers...strange that people claiming to be "Christlike" are so far from it.
Hey Trippin63...what exactly does the phrase "theologically assinine" mean?
Is a flat, 6,000 year old earth "theologically assinine"?
Is claiming bats are a species of bird "theologically assinine"?
Is claiming the earth is resting on giant pillars "theologically assinine"?
How about claiming that an all-powerful cosmic Creator requires its creations to offer up blood sacrifices...if that isn't "theologically assinine" then NOTHING is!
LOL......wow RH, over thinking this one aren't we?......I didn't see Linda mention "child rapist" or "murderer" once in her story. Oh you mean that the word "God" offends you on a level with those to things? Wow, that's pretty caustic. Wouldn't want to mention then that there are child rapists and murderers that are atheist as well? Should I lump you in kind into that bunch like you are wishing to throw the Christians? "That" is pretty asinine. If you would please re-read my original post, I said that judging your views (theologically asinine) would be pretty stupid. What I was getting at is discounting Linda's story because it had the word "God" in it was ridiculous. There is no reason to become offended if a story "does" or "doesn't" have the word "God" in it. It's a great story. Period. Linda I'm sure wasn't trying to "offend" anyone wtih this particular story. Yet.....there are always people who take offense. And no....before your mind "thinks" it and you start to feel persecuted again.... Offense isn't an "atheist" trait. Every belief system on this earth has the ability to be offended AND to be offensive. But Linda wasn't standing on the mountain top pointing at you and saying "da-mn you atheist" in a simple story about her sons Dog.... "That would be pretty Asinine"..... But somehow you still seemed to take offense to it...... Amazing....
"LOL......wow RH, over thinking this one aren't we?"Nah, just bored at lunch...but thanks for the compliment.
"Oh you mean that the word "God" offends you on a level with those to things?"Close, but no. I'm not offended at all. But quit pretending you are ignorant of the fact that the god in the Bible condones the rape and murder of children, among other nasty things - if you're still going to play ignorant, I can supply chapters and verses.
"Every belief system on this earth has the ability to be offended AND to be offensive."Wow, that's a pretty bold claim...and are you still confusing belief with a lack of belief? If so, do you also consider "not collecting stamps" a hobby? LOL
"Offense isn't an "atheist" trait."Nice of you to notice...
"But somehow you still seemed to take offense to it"I don't recall ever saying I was offended. Are you confusing me with someone else?
And please, before you jump all over it, my comment about being offended by child rapists and murderers was a reply to YOUR comment, not my comment concerning the article.
(hopes Trippin63 is above such banality and this addendum was unnecessary)
I was just observing your comments...... nothing more. Everything I said is applicable. I have not lumped you in with Atheists that rape murder and pilage. Why should you lump christians in to misdeeds done by other christians? Makes no sense. That was not even the point of the discussion as you admit. Discounting Linda's remarks because she mentioned the word "god" makes no sense AND is the point of my observation and comment. Because you are an atheist does not give you the corner on the "i am an individual" market. You are in a group like everyone else that could very well be based on your common beliefs. That's why there is a name for it. There are millions of different thoughts and beliefs with in the different christian denominations. There are millions of different beliefs with in each individual denomination. Because a person is atheist does not make him a good or bad person. Because a person is a christian does not make him a good or bad person. Really rudimentary thoughts per my way of thinking. And as for my bold claim..... If you tell me that there isn't good and bad in "every" walk of life. I really will think you've lost your mind......LOL
." I have not lumped you in with Atheists that rape murder and pilage. "Well THAT'S good; I hate those roving bands of murderous atheists!
"Why should you lump christians in to misdeeds done by other christians?"I don't know, wny should I? Are you claiming I have done this?
"Discounting Linda's remarks"I did no such thing; in fact, in regards to the story itself, I said something along the lines of "real, touching story".
"AND is the point of my observation and comment"Um, okay. What is the poiint of your observation and comment?
"Because you are an atheist"You keep saying this, and I let it slide...even commenting on atheism...but where do you get this claim from? Are you confusing me with someone else again?
"You are in a group like everyone else that could very well be based on your common beliefs."Neat! What group is that, and is there a membership fee?
"That's why there is a name for it. "If you're talking about the word "atheism", you may be interested to know the word was first coined by pantheistic Romans to describe Christians...oh the irony!
As for the rest of your comment, I agree!
Leave it to the atheists to reduce an inspirational story to a rant on why there can't be a God. Nothing but a random succession of events not connected by anything conscious or spiritual. How sad it must be to think you are so pathetically alone. I'm not a Christian, Jew, Muslim, or any other religious denomination because I think they are all so full of silly religious ritual, AKA BS, that they all miss the boat. Yet how could anyone look out into the universe and beyond and not see God? How could you not know that everything is connected? Perhaps because it is you that is disconnected RationalHuman, and not God.
