Attacks had desired effect
It would appear that the despicable attack on Herman Cain was effective toward the accomplishment of the three goals that were sought.
First, it damaged the campaign of a popular presidential candidate, increasing the likelihood that President Obama would face a weaker opponent.
Secondly, it subtly advanced a perception that all the Republican candidates are flawed.
And finally, and most critically, it publicly punished a conservative and thoughtful African-American for daring to leave the Progressive plantation.
Blacks are a vital element in the Democrat constituency, and progressives are fiercely jealous of their loyalty. Any politician, or other public figure of that race, that dares to question the wisdom and goodness of the Democrat Party is a threat to the dominance of that party over the hearts and minds of racial minorities. Thus, the heresy of individual thought must be stamped out relentlessly. Conservatism is anathema in any form. But in a black mind it is a threat that must be dealt with mercilessly and without regard to ethics or morality. We saw that with Clarence Thomas and it is now being rerun with Herman Cain.
I pray for a triumph of reason and decency over unscrupulous politics and unethical journalism.

Yes, Don,
Where we need a leader not a reader, loosing Cain would be a shame. But we need thinkers, those who read, discuss things with others, evaluate alternatives and decide. And while Cain might have done that in the pizza industry, he could not do that on the campaign trail.
Perry could not remember the third department he would dissolve, the Energy Department. So far I have not heard his explanation for why he would dissolve it. Cain had trouble remembering enough facts and detail on how the US handled Libya to answer directly, and off the cuff what he might have done differently. And then we have those women who recalled being the targets of unwelcomed interactions. He denied these encounters, not because they were lying, but because he could not remember them, too.
I want a leader who is a reader, and one who remembers.

Dale says, "I want a leader who is a reader, and one who remembers."
Well Dale, you voted for Obama by your own admission. I have no doubt you will do so again in 2012.
Obama thinks there are 57 states, Marine Corps is "Corpse" and Hawaii is part of Asia. He promised no unemployment over 8% and to close Guantanamo. He has failed on all fronts.
Obama is a reader all right... of teleprompters.
As usual you cancel yourself out with your own contradictions.

I'm glad you feel that way Dale. Then we can bet you won't be voting for Obama next election . Do a search and check out the town hall event in Bristol VA, that Obama did when HE was running for President, It makes Perry and Cain look pretty good !

The leftist leaning media gave Obozo a pass when he made so many mistakes it was obvious to any thinking person that Obozo was the affirmative action president of choice. He was an unaccomplished individual who was promoted throughout his life because he was both black and a smooth talker when able to use a teleprompter. Without his teleprompter he sounds as he is, an idiot. I doesn't surprise me that Dale, a reputed republican, voted for Obozo. After all, birds of a feather flock together.

Peggy Noonan of the Wall Street Journal had this to say about Cain:
“Mr. Cain's famous version of the brain freeze this week wasn't really that, a brain freeze. It was more like a public service. Because he was showing us a candidate for the presidency of the United States desperately trying to retrieve a soundbite and not even trying to hide the fact that he was trying to retrieve a soundbite. Because we're kind of all in on the game, and it is a game, right?
The reporter asked him if he agreed, in retrospect, with President Obama's decisions on Libya. Mr. Cain said, "OK, Libya." Ten seconds of now famous silence ensued. Then: "I do not agree with the way he handled it for the following reasons." Another pause, and then: "Um, no, that's a different one."
He was saying: That's a different soundbite.
Later, with an almost beautiful defiance, Mr. Cain told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: "I'm not supposed to know anything about foreign policy." That's what staffers are for. "I want to talk to commanders on the ground. Because you run for president [people say] you need to have the answer. No you don't! No you don't!"”
Peggy seems to have hit the nail, so to speak. Her point is that if Cain had an original opinion why did he not speak it. Why? He told us, “I’m not supposed to know anything. . .”

Hey, all you neo-cons out there, in 2000 we had a choice in the primary between Bush 43 and McCain. Even though McCain was toast by the time we had our primary, I voted for him, not Bush. And Bush/Chaney gave us Iraq, the faux war on terrorism. Then in 2008, we got a new version of McCain, version 2.0 with a side order of Sarah Palin, a governor knowing less than Perry and a business person knowing less than Cain. So given the choise, Obama was the better. You guys never even read their books. You voted with your guts, not your intellects.

P.S.
So who of the seven or so Republican candidate do you like and why? I like a combination of Ron Paul/Jon Huntsman on foreign policy. Paul has the right approach on starting from the constitution, and Huntsman knows the ropes in foreign policy. Gingrich had some interesting insights on comprehensive immigration reform, but his foreign policy is naive. None except for Paul put Israel in its proper perspective. And no one, not even Obama, seems to know how best for fight terrorism [Paul is closest] or how to "handle" Iran. And the best Bachmann could do is put a pit more understanding on the complexity of Pakistan. Perry, Santorum and Cain were pittyful. Who did I leave out? Romney! Need I say more!

Don, the only opponent for Obama weaker than Cain would perhaps be Sarah Palin.
Second point -- what's wrong with telling the truth? The perception that all Republican candidates are flawed is a valid perception. They demonstrate their incompetence every time they speak.
And thirdly, no one cares if he's African - American ( although I would prefer American of African descent ) -- he's incompetent for the job. In his own words he said " I'm not supposed to know anything ".

After 11 Republican candidates debates it's become evident these GOP presidential events do matter and the Republican polls fluctuate accordingly, even with all of the media attacks. Herman Cain, a frontrunner is said to be now dropping in the polls after some recent foreign policy slip-ups and not from the obnoxious attack.
Religious discrimination in the presidential race (bias against Mormons) remains an obstacle for political candidates – former Gov. Mitt Romney and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman.
While the Liberal Democrat polls are set for another four years of President Obama.

Cain was done in by his own idiocy. He has shown he has no grasp on foreign relations (Uze-beki-beki-beki-stan anyone?), economics (his 9-9-9 SimCity plan will more than double taxes on the middle class), or even reality (China's had nukes for almost 40 years).
And, to use RW logic applied after 2008, any white conservative supporting Cain is doing so only to prove they're not racists.

That's a good mental image of both Dale Whiting and CSalafia. They both admire Obama’s Muslim inclination and his "Change to Communism" campaign he has conducted.

The liberal tool says, "And, to use RW logic applied after 2008, any white conservative supporting Cain is doing so only to prove they're not racists."
What a sad way to go through life. When he has no valid arguement to support his lousy excuse of a president and his failed presidency ChrisSal has to fall back to the tired leftist mantra of declaring racism where none exists.

Chicken?
Not a one of you Neo-cons has ventured to say either who you might be supporting or what you might be supporting. The only consistent theme is ABO, Anybody But Obama. None of you defend Bush 43! None of you defend McCain [either version 1.0 or 2.0]. All you can critisize is Obama, and you do that without substance. Were he a liberal, his strongest critics would not be liberals.
Bin Laden, Kadahfi, Mubarack, do you miss these "friends" of neo-conservative politics? By going after Hussein, Bush 43 in effect guaranteed bin Laden's safe passage into Pakistan. Obama had the good sense to support European efforts to support anti-Kadahfi revolutionaries. Behind the scenes efforts to restrain the Egyptian Military spelled the doom of Mubarack.
If and when someone from my party, the Republican Party, steps forward with something principled and not just hot air, I'll be supporting them. But Bush 43 and then McCain version 2.0 lacked substance. Not unlike Cain, most of these present day would be conservative presidents would lead but have not yet read.
Did you catch Bachmann quoting unknown statistics on foiled terrorist plots? She's either revealing CIA secrets or dreaming wistfully. And where Bloomberg claims to have caught a terrorist from Dominica, the FBI dismissed him as incompetent. I bet that not unlike the "Time Square" bomber, his methods lacked expertise. After all, they only thing that went up on Times Square was some black power smoke!
You fear everything and everybody.
