I am a firm believer in freedom of speech and expression, however I do not understand why there is not stricter zoning in most towns in the East Valley.

Tattoo and body piercing parlors, adult stores, etc., seem to be popping up everywhere and anywhere. Has everyone become so politically correct that they are blind to the environment these types of businesses bring to a community? Lets be honest: how many families want to live next to any of these types of businesses?

Why is there not a requirement that they be located further away from residential areas and schools? I have lived many places in the United States and Arizona is one of the most beautiful, but we seem to be allowing it to be trashed.

On the east coast so many once-family towns were turned into wastelands because no one stopped certain types of businesses from moving in. The not-so-respectable businesses moved in and the tax-paying home owners moved out. The towns that allowed this to happen became places people did not want to go, no matter how nice they made the building and landscape. I am heartbroken to see this same thing happening to the beautiful new East Valley communities. Does anyone else see this alarming trend?

I can't wait to see the normal bunch of liberal nuts commenting on this one. Unfortuneatly, in an economic downturn, the owners of strip malls are much more likely to rent to these types of businesses when they normally would be less inclined. So to the cities loosen up their standards to keep the flow of tax revenue. On the opposite end of the arguement, if the community was so against these businesses, they would dry up and blow away- that is capitalism- no? Vote with your wallet.

Lisa – I understand your despair. I'm fortunate to live in an area zoned residential so I don't have to put up not-so-respectable businesses. Of course I do have to see the hundreds of people with tattoos and body piercings. I don't know what's being sold in those adult stores but I have a dirty enough mind to imagine. People who make me have dirty thoughts should not be allowed to set up shop in my town. There should be a law... The other day I saw some young people who had tattoos and earrings and lip piercings and who knows what that I couldn't see. They shouldn't be allowed to walk down the street like that, not in a family town!

I see kids being kids. Personally, I think it's cool.

I call it freedom of self expression. I have a friend that owns a tattoo parlor. He's quite respected, and follows the laws. Which means no tat's, et al, to underage.

Let any other business, it can be run by professionals, or by low lifes....
