Considering the wreck that is our state's economy, the dismal literacy level of Greater Phoenix as reported in your paper should surprise noone. The Boobs, Babbitts and Bigots of both parties who have set themselves up as our Arizona power structure, and who are responsible for our dire straits, absolutely depend upon an uneducated, unifnormed and apathetic citizenry to survive. They have transformed The Valley of the Sun from "America's Future" into a third world nightmare with cartel corruption flowing in, and tuberculosis showing the only real growth potential.

They know that the only way out is for Arizona to start merging its economy with that of California, and they will deny us prosperity to keep power strictly for themselves. There are many proposals on the table, and they are too big for the local princes and princesses to manipulate. One is the fact that Salt River Project is an entity of Arizona State Government and is in the position to offer free electric power to businesses moving here.

Another is a massive infrastructure project funded by a new state lottery to connect San Diego to Phoenix/Mesa/Tucson by high speed electric rail through an Arizona Transportation Authority.

One reason this State and Country is tanking is because of our NEWS MEDIA WHO REFUSE TO PRINT THE TRUTH. because like our political leaders they owe their lives to corporate DOLLARS, Who is benefiting by all the negative political adds? the news media. Or their believes are different and refuse to print the other sides opinions.[sad]

    Ok, Art, I'll bite!

Where SRP rates are relatively high, wouldn't subsidizing businesses who might move here make those rates go higher? Are you sure that the businesses who might come here for free power would bring with them sufficient collateral benefits to make it worth our collective while?

And where we might benefit from a high speed rail connecting us to the West Coast, why do you pick San Diego and not LA? What advantages to you see in San Diego that do not exist in LA? And what about Tucson?

Ever thought about having First Solar build a system of relatively small generating stations between here and Tucson to power an electic high speed train? It would require having batteries for the stations to charge along the route. We could replace most of the relatively short and wasteful Phoenix to Tucson short hops.

Art: You write about "dismal literacy level of Greater Phoenix" and then use "noone" as a word. Tsk, tsk. I understand typos like "unifnormed" can happen. But before you call others apathetic, you should concentrate on yourself first.

The "dismal literacy level of Greater Phoenix" is due to one thing and one thing only =

    Tsk, tsk masterdevil,
In short, “Literacy has been described as the ability to read for knowledge and write coherently and think critically about the written word.” (Wikipedia)
Your critique is not only petty it is “uninformed”.

    Leon,
Tucson, a city with as many or more Mexican immigrants, also ranks higher in literacy than Phoenix and/or Mesa. I suppose you believe that you are not racist too.

The closest thing to a minority I ever saw at a Know-Nothing tea party rally was a sign that made a references to "niggar" or "imam" etc. etc. etc. .

Pot meet kettle... kettle - pot.

Other than Dale, Cerulean is the biggest racist here.

Any idiot can come up with multi-trillion dollar solutions, and a scape goat can always be found. We've been doing it for a couple centuries and we are trillions beyond broke, our production capacity is being exported , we elect people who lie to us and promise things they never accomplish, then re-elect them. How about telling them to guard the shore, deliver the mail and stay out of our lives? But well, that might be too literate.

    Slabside,

Wow, you must have an amazing memory. Nov 4, 2011. Are you sure it was a Friday, too? that, or you have way too much time on your hands, giving you nothing else to do but research Cerulean's past statements. Which is it bro? A perfect memory or too much time?

Care to spend a few moments quoting a statement of mine whicy you view as racist? I've lived with Hispanics, with Muslims, with blacks in the south, and even with biggots on this site! And last time I looked into the matter the term "neo-con" was not a racial statement.

    Rich,

As always, you spot on point. My Phoenix-Tucson electric high-speed rail would never work. Most flights to Tucson go on eastward. And I doubt there are enough passengers needing to come here to get flights out of Phoenix. The super shuttle service between Phoenix is normally backed. But a high speed rail does seem like over-kill, pretty much like Art's other ideas.

I wonder which of the old Phoenix 40 stepped on Art's toes?

    Mr. 666,

What amazed me was not that "noone" and "unifnormed" crept in, but that the editor's spell checker missed them both! I spell check my articles but not my "on line" typed comments.

The only way I would support a massive infrastructure project funded by a new state lottery to connect San Diego to Phoenix/Mesa/Tucson by high speed electric rail would be if everyone from Calimexico and Tucson has to prove their legality in America before getting off the train.

"The "dismal literacy level of Greater Phoenix" is due to one thing and one thing only = ILLEGAL ALIENS FROM MEXICO AND POINTS SOUTH ! ! !" But you state the obvious Leon. Tenth grade illegals fluent in English at the third grade level is common. They hold back the rest of the class. Since we have to educate them due to federal law, why can't we at least force them into the same backward school system so that our children don't suffer the consequences?

We Whites do have own support groups. Ever heard of the KKK? And when was the last time you saw a picture of a Tea Party ralley with a minority pictured in it?

@ Cerulean or should I call you "Surreal"ean: You've made another BLANKET STATEMENT without offering any information that could be considered proof (Which you seem to CONSTANTLY ASK of those whom oppose your views). Other than just your say-so, where's said "proof" or even an explanation? I don't always agree with Dale of everything, but at least he gives the REASON(S) for his conclusion(s).

There is no such word as "noone". However, it can be used as "no one" or "no-one". Does this clarify it for you? MY POINT was that Art complained about the "dismal literacy" problem and doesn't notice his own mistakes.

Dale: Maybe they need to upgrade their software? I just happen to remember that "noone" is not a word. I don't usually check my comments either. However, when you have trolls like "Surrealean" that attempt childish insults instead of insightful comments, a prudent person attempts to limit their "ammunition" by making sure the t's are crossed and the I's dotted.

If I plan on a lengthy argument, I'll use Microsoft Word first, then cut and paste. It's easier to formulate your thoughts in a clearer manner, IMHO.

As I indicated, I don't concern myself with typos, but "noone" was just too big of a red flag.

    Masterrogue666,

I’m not sure why you wish to call me “Surrealean”. My comment picture is not surreal. Surrealism tends to distort physical realities and the images often have some manner of inference made (or, in the case of writing, a conversational absurdity). Surrealism is abstract but not completely abstract.
The picture that I have next to my comments is a representation of a ‘blue giant’ or it could be a ‘blue super-giant’. Blue giants are very, very large stars with 10 - 50 times the solar mass of our own sun.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_supergiant

There is the idea of ‘no one’, and you do not need the space between the words for coherence to exist. So, it was in that sense, that and because you attached the language of “dismal literacy” and ‘uninformed’ that caused me to think that your critique was harsh.
It is also true that I did not have a significant contribution to make to the subject of the letter.

I admitt it, I'm now confused. Was that last sentence an explanation, apology, or something else?

I quoted those words because the AUTHOR used them first to ATTACK others. My point was while you are attempting to belittle others, it's wise that you don't do the very thing you accuse others of doing.

Now, to answer the question about "noone":

    http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_noone_one_word

    http://www.usingenglish.com/forum/general-language-discussions/52784-no-one-vs-noone.html

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080102113559AA7q7HU

    It's rather clear to me.

Thanks for the astrophysics lesson, but I already knew what a blue giant was. However, due to the size of your icon, it's hard to determine what it is.

I'd bet that if someone used the avatar name "White dwarf" there would be those that would call it racist, or politically incorrect because of "dwarf". Very much like you claiming that I must be a Devil worshipper simply because I have "666" as part of my avatar's name. All conclusions would be wrong, with none of it based on facts.
