I will proudly say that I am a union member. My brothers and sisters helped build our country into the greatest country of all time. We helped build the infrastructure, the houses, schools, hospitals, malls, and automobiles. We move the commerce and collect the garbage. We did our part in building the World Trade Centers. My brothers and sisters also rushed into those burning buildings to save people's lives.
They too had a hand in rebuilding the monument in memory of those we lost on that day. It is an honor to be a part of something that is so very American. I'm thankful every day for my pay, benefits, health insurance, a pension at the end of my career, and helping me achieve my American dream.
I find it disheartening to hear conservatives trying to place the blame of so many of our country's woes on the back of the American worker and unions which played such a vital part in making our country so powerful...It actually feels more like a punch in the stomach and a spit in the eye. The multinationals and Wall Street have their lobbyists to work in their behalf and to write laws in their favor. Is it too much to ask to have a lobby in my favor? An organization which has my interest in mind?
The balance of power is shifting away from the many to a small few. Unions have always fought for the rights, respect, and dignity of the many.
