I’m not sure what’s more disappointing: Having a governor who makes the wrong decisions, or having a governor who’s too afraid to make decisions. After reading Mr. Fischer’s article (“Arizona retailers urge governor to negotiate with Amazon over tax issue”), it’s obvious we have the latter.

How can our governor say that it’s “not important” for her to get involved in the Amazon sales-tax issue? Has she not seen the empty storefronts in her West Valley strip malls?

It’s incredulous that she wants to sit on her hands while the small businesses that are so vital to Arizona struggle to compete with Amazon and other online retailers who don’t get charged sales tax. Forget SB 1070, because in my mind, her inaction on this issue will be her legacy.

Let's see. Wasn't there something about Brewer's family and/or friends having connections to businesses engaged in running private prisons? If Jan is reluctant to take on Amazon, wonder what connection she has with them? And under Jan, didn't we sell our State Capital building?

At least in Mexico, the bribes are paid in the open for all to see.

I like things the way they are now. I like to save my money, as i don't have much. if you don't like Brewer, don't vote for her. Didn't we all just vote for a sales tax hike?.

    Welcome aboard 'Retired Citizen."

Yes, many of us did just vote for a sales tax hike. And I find that hike to be preferable to spending money to lease back our state capital building.

And no, I did not vote for Brewer. I voted for the other guy. For me policial experience counts. I knew where the other guy was coming from. Brewer was the sort of surprise that Palin easily could have been.

And with our moderate Republican McCain as old as he was, taking such chances seemed foolish. But our Arizona TeaPartying Neo-cons voted for McCain anyway. Since when is being wreckless a characteristic of conservatism?

Hope to hear more from you soon.

So Retired, you like to buy from Amazon to "save" on the taxes. I get it. Here's my question: the profits from your Amazon purchases go who-knows-where (overseas perhaps) while local businesses, whose profits would remain in the local economy, are shuttered because they can't compete due to having to charge sales tax. Thus, your community becomes less desirable because after all, who wants to live in a town full of vacant commercial properties? Not a sign of prosperity. So next thing you know the value of YOUR property spirals downward for lack of demand. All because you wanted to save a buck dodging sales tax. Now who will you blame for that??? Remember the phrase 'Penny wise, pound foolish?'

Hey, Jan attended Glendale Community College. That's the highest level of education she attained. She has no college degree. Not even an AA [though I have heard some comments about that...LOL]. Isn't that saying a lot about the politics of Arizona, right there? Education? You don't need no steen-keeng education to be GOVERNOR!

    How's that for a legacy?
