Could the media please give us a break with endless grisly accounts of the Aurora killings? I understand it was a tragedy, and our sympathies lie with the 55 innocent victims. But, we also need to appreciate that 86 Americans are killed by firearms every day, and nearly 4,000 are killed prematurely by chronic diseases linked with consumption of animal products and lack of exercise.

So, let’s replace the vacuous hand-wringing over the Aurora tragedy with constructive personal steps to lessen the greater tragedies facing us every day.

The difference of course being that the 4000's wounds are self inflicted. Not quite the same thing.

Mr. Rich ... the first thing they teach a cub reporter is that ' sex and blood sells '.

Things like the Batman shooting, to the media are like a real life episode of Law and Order.

    It's grisly and blood sells.

It sells papers and it attracts viewers.

    Human nature, unfortunately.

And the various media stations are all competing for viewers / readers so they constantly go to what works. Sex and blood.

And they will beat that drum until another sensational event happens.

Other than politics -- it's all they have.

    David,
Death and mayhem sells better than normalcy.

Oh and gun control is much more sexy then personnal responsibility. You step out on that slippery slope and it might call people to be responsible for themselves in other areas. That doesn't go with the grand plan.......

David, David, David. When are you going to realize that meat consuption is an every day thing? If you were starving and literally had nothing else to eat, would you eat meat?

Animals eat other animals all the time. You don't see them getting chronic illnesses. I eat meat all the time. I do exercise, as well. My favorite food has meat in it. And I'm telling you, there is NO way ANYONE will keep me from eating meat. The only time I will ever stop is when I die. After that, eating will no longer be necessary. And I will not likeliy die for anther 50 or 60 years or so. It all depends what God has planned for me.
