I am a parent of current Queen Creek High School students.

We have been trying to get an FCA club (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) started since the fall of 2010, but thus far have been unsuccessful. Brian Mabb is the assistant principal in charge of authorizing new clubs on the QCHS campus. Mr. Mabb will not allow our students to have an FCA club on campus because our club doesn’t meet the “school requirements.” Mr. Mabb said that a club needs to be “academic or competitive” in nature.

The FCA, started in 1954, is a nationally recognized Christian club at college, high school and junior high campuses. The FCA is active in over 30 East Valley high schools and junior highs, including Apache Junction, Higley, Perry, Basha, Gilbert, Desert Ridge, Mesa and Hamilton. Why not at Queen Creek?

As a Christian, I want my kids to be around as many Christian kids as possible. Today, kids encounter so many temptations. The support system that the Fellowship of Christian Athletes can provide will help to identify those peers that could prevent your child from taking drugs and being involved in underage drinking or sexual intimacy.

We now have an attorney helping us with this matter. We are going to start meeting off campus. If you have a Christian athlete at Queen Creek High School who would like to participate, email me at dabears85@cox.net with your contact information.

Please pray for our kids, our schools, our school administrators.

Dave Williams

Simple solution: Put your kids at Brophy, Xavier, Valley Christian, or Gilbert Christian, to name a few "Christian" schools, or home school them and start your own FCA. Problem solved.

If you allow a "Christian Athletes Club"...then the School will have to authorize a "Wiccan Club" (witches, demons, goths, etc), then the Lesbians, the Gays, the Transgenders, the Transexuals, the Cross-Dressers, the Body Art (tattooes), the Body Piercing (nose rings, nipple rings, eyebrow wings, etc)...don't forget the Native American Athletes and the Hispanic-La Raza Athletes will want their clubs too.

Pretty soon your High School will be so fragmented that there will be no "School Spirit" at all............................BE CAREFUL OF WHAT YOU WISH FOR AND THE "UN-INTENDED" CONSEQUENCES THERE OF.

    Dear Brian Mabb,

Hi! I'm happy to learn that you're in education and have a responsible position out in Queen Creek. Now go back to you father and allow him to talk some sense into you! Daddy knows best!

@Dave Williams: Do you really think that a kid that belongs to such an organization won't do those things that you fear? When I was in high school, some of the biggest party animals were the "religious" types, INCLUDING MORMONS!

    Mr. 666,

Let's assume you are correct and that Dave is wrong. Does that have any bearing on whether or not kids have a right to belong to such organizations? I thought you did not like big government telling us what to do! Guess I thought wrong!

    Brian,

Have you talked to your Dad, Bruce yet? Start the conversation with the 11th Article of Faith!

With all respect to Mr. Williams, are you out of your flippin mind? Mentoring students to achieve a strong mind in a strong body appears to be what Mr. Maab is striving for. Religion, any religion, does not belong in a Public school. Send your son to a Bible Academy or let him receive religious instruction and fraternity at home or at his church. Enough of this politically correct stuff whether it be Christianity, Mormonism, Islam, Hebrew, Hinduism, Buddhism or any other religion or non-religion.

I know first hand that FCA at the U.S. Air Force Acadmey ran amok and bullied those who would not join. You want your kid to associate with primarily Christian kids? Geez, Sounds like you are a very biased and narrow-minded parent.

I pray to Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior everyday. I will definitely begin praying for your son. He's got some major issues to overcome with you as his Father.

I am very impressed with the principled stand which Mr. Brian Mabb has taken. I hope and expect the school and district administrators back him up. Its only a short step from what Mr. Williams is demanding for other small minded people to join in and say Mr. Mabb is against Christianity. In fact, Mr. Mabb is practicing Christianity in its truest form, respect for all religions and refusing to allow Proselytizing of religion on Campus.
