According to Amazon.com, sales of Jan Brewer's book "Scorpions for Breakfast" have gone up a whopping 150,398 percent over the past 24 hours since her heated discussion with President Obama took place on the tarmac at Williams-Gateway Airport. What this means is that nobody was buying her book before the incident that appears to have been staged. You can buy the book today for $15.78. The price has steadily dropped since the book was released, which is code for "no good." The most succinct review of her book that I found referred to it as total "crap."
My take on the encounter at the airport is that Brewer has once again shamelessly pandered the image and reputation of the great state of Arizona for her own personal gain, this time book sales.
After reviewing the audio tapes of her 2010 meeting with the president in the Oval Office and viewing the video of her comments made immediately afterwards outside the White House while being interviewed by CNN it is quite clear that once again our governor has misspoke the truth.
Immediately following the meeting in the Oval Office, she referred to the president as being "very cordial." Later, in her book, she wrote that she felt Obama had been "condescending" and that she "felt a little bit like (she) was being lectured to, and (she) was a little kid in a classroom, if you will, and he was this wise professor and (she) was this little kid, and this little kid knows what the problem is and (she) felt minimized to say the least."
A little thin-skinned are we, Jan?
My intuition tells me that our gov simply was attempting to leverage the president's visit for her own personal financial gain. Either that or she was being used by the tea party as a "hack" to steal the headlines away from Obama's visit. Could be both.
Any way you cut it, her book had been a dismal failure up until her "drama queen" antics on the tarmac last week. In fact, Brewer has been a dismal failure as governor and has continuously lived down to low expectations. She talks in hyperbole. She continues to file frivolous lawsuits against the federal government. She attempts to override the will of the voters. The only reason that she relented on medical marijuana and now is going to allow dispensaries to open this summer is because she lost in court - again.
But to be openly disrespectful to the president of the United States and lie about it at the same time is disingenuous and embarrassing. Once again Brewer has demonstrated to all of us just how small of a person she truly is.

No one should be openly disrespectful to a sitting President. I am sure we will find numerous columns from Mr Beydler on extending the same respect to Bush when he was in office. I am sure Gov. Brewer would take this as an insult if it came from someone of consequence. Thankfully she won't have to worry about that here. It is merely from Jon Beydler ,a 32-year Valley resident and briefly the mayor of Fountain Hills who now lives in Chandler The Tribune may want to clarify his tag line.

I remember when Gov. Brewer took the SB1070 soapbox to Washington. It was near the time of the United Nations Conference in Copenhagen and President Obama had been working on a framework for climate change. I, being one who views environmental degradation as serious, was encouraged by President Obama’s active urging the U.S. to adopt policies that would begin to wean us from our fossil fuel “addiction” (as described by Bush). And, unlike Bush, Obama did not invite the oil industry to write U.S. policy on climate change. So, it was a time when the debate was centered on ‘cap and trade’ with a great deal of opposition to any agreement in Congress.
Lo, in April of 2010 the Tea Party, funded in large part by oil businessmen Koch brothers, took to Washington square to protest taxes, so they said. Then in June, our very own Gov. Brewer grabs the Mexican flag (figuratively) to visit Washington in protest of the 12 million migrants that Bush allowed to cross the border. She, Pearce and the tea party have a mind to change the focus away from energy and onto every migrant who now have become ‘deranged criminals’. Yeah, she said, in effect, ‘we will pick-up anyone who looks Mexican, ask them for papers and hold them in a private prison system (that also happen to fund our campaigns), all on the tax-payers dole.’ Go figure.
Immigration is a problem and that is why President Obama chose Napolitano to lead the Dept. of Homeland Security, she has a clear understanding of border issues. Yes, I know the tea party crowd love to disparage Napolitano’s sexuality, but they cannot discredit the fact that the number of weapons and drug seizures continue to increase under this administration, and that more illegal felons are now deported than ever before. She and President Obama have done more than any other administration in history to control migration across the Arizona border. In an article from the Tucson Sentinel, Napolitano concedes, “much work was still needed along the border. But she said lawmakers need to adopt policy changes to solve the nation’s complex immigration problems.” That includes passing the Dream Act.

Nobody has confirmed what was said between the two and Jan may have simply raised her finger to carry across a point the in the same manner that Obama does when giving speeches when he clinches his fist with his thumb extended.

President Obama's visit was a chance for Arizona to shine in the eyes of the nation, as everyone looked here to see Intel's manufacturing plant. Then Governor Brewer decided to turn the spotlight away from the good things that are happening here and onto herself. Now, no one is talking about Intel. Everyone is talking about the tarmac incident. Thanks, gov, for showing us what is really important to you.

You talk out of both sides of your mouth, you put down one politician for disrespecting another, yet you have no problem showing your disrespect. Since you "were" a mayor... you don't possibly have an agenda of your own going on do you? If it's "body language" that disturbs you, you better pay attention to the Presidents the next time you watch him speak!!

Governor Jan Brewer gave the President a hand written letter inviting him to the border. But then he started to talk about her book “Scorpions for Breakfast.” Brewer's book sales increased 2.2 million percent in 24 hours after the intense conversation . . . Thanks to Obama's reaction.

Well said geekette! And kudos to Mr. Beydler for nailing it once again. Brewers role on the Tarmac was to welcome the President and direct the spotlight to the advances at Intel. Simple, right? Instead she chose an inappropriate moment to advance her agenda, turned the spotlight on herself for personal gain and cast another shameful impression of Arizona for the world.
What was really said matters little at this point. She made us look bad yet again but benefitted personally from it.
Jan you have a lot of class - of the lowest variety!

Yes, no one is looking at Intel for it's profitability or because they are a leader in technology. No, everyone has to waite until Obama comes to town before they realize that Intel is a good company. That is rich. Remember one of the last companies Obama visited to trumpet their deeds was Soyndra. Thought here it was our money proping them up and they folded like a cheap community activist. If you are waiting for Obama to point out winners, you are a loser........

Hmm, only $15.78, you say. I've seen collector comic book selling for more. I suppose I'll consider buying it. Reading it for laughs probably would be more entertaining that listening to the next Republican Presidential Debate.
Besides, I just submitted my Arizona Presidential Preference ballot today. And being a registered Republican I had a tough choice to make. Either I vote for Newt and see things drag on and on and on. Or I make that statement Newt calls for. I chose to make a statement and voted for Buddy Romer!
Did you people realize that this preference election is costing the Maricopa County Elections Department $2,000,000 to administer? Got that from the horse's mouth!
