Obama announced an executive order to establish initiative on educational excellence for African Americans. It will give them complete education from the time they are born till they get career. He also calls for the price of college tuition to drop.

And Mr. President you believe so many are being racist? Really? It makes me wonder how would “for whites only” go over.

    Jackie:

I see you do not have much experience with Executive Orders. You need to understand they are nothing more than statements of policy and every president does them with a lean toward certain interest groups. Check out President Bush's Equal Protection of the Laws for Faith-based and Community Organizations which basically shattered the notion of a separation between church and state. Almost all executive orders will be offensive to someone. Don't just take out your anger at this president for it.

Leon, you are just crazy and no one is listening anymore.

You poor underprivileged girl. Really, Jackie – if you want to go to school, the drop in cost for college would be for everyone – including you Jackie.

If you went to school, you might learn something besides bigotry. Try it! [lol]

President Barack Obama now has a movement to include support for same-sex marriage in the Democrats official party platform and also a drive to reaffirm opposition to the Defense of Marriage Act (the federal law favoring traditional marriage).

After Obama’s formal support of gay marriage, many African-American pastors and African-American groups are saying Obama threatens the stability of family, especially within the black community; and they are urging black voters not to support the president as long as he's supporting gay marriage.

So Obama now has the White House initiative on “Educational Excellence for African-Americans”. Calling for an endeavor that will highlight the barriers and challenges to African-American educational achievement, which the National Urban League certainly show approval of – and all during the upcoming presidential election.

Thanks for pointing out the blatant hypocrisy of the black community, Accuracy.

Shameful, for a group that was waging their own civil rights battle just decades ago.
Just more proof that religion rots the mind.

"If you're a black Christian, you have a real short memory" - Chris Rock

Once again, Accuracy parrots the claim that gay marriage will "threaten the stability of family" - how about explaining HOW this will occur? This is simply just another in a long list of false claims (some would call them outright lies).

The problem I have with personalities such as Accuracy is that he reminds me of
    Edgar Hoover.

    J. Edgar Hoover thought he was a superhero out to save the world from communism and political activists like Martin Luther King. In fact, in Nixon’s eulogy he called Hoover “one of the giants.” Hoover’s favorite past time was delving into the sexual behaviors of those he held dissension toward.

Yet Hoover never married, his best friend and life partner was a man named Clyde Tolson to whom Hoover left all of his worldly possessions upon his passing.

Some say that J Edgar Hoover was a great man, his name emblazoned on the FBI building; he was also a homosexual.

Sorry cerulean, absolutely nothing to do with bigotry, just too many racial incidents with this president. He is the one creating the divide in our country and you are the one helping with more nastiness.

Read the order first, Ms. Retell: http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2012/07/26/executive-order-white-house-initiative-educational-excellence-african-am

Nothing there says anything about giving anyone anything.

I've never heard of the president saying others were being racist, have you?

And you don't really wonder how "for whites only" would go over. You just think it's a fair trade for this initiative. Don't be a simpleton; it's not.

Is this the “racial incident” you speak of rangers 46?

“However, substantial obstacles to equal educational opportunity still remain in America's educational system. African Americans lack equal access to highly effective teachers and principals, safe schools, and challenging college-preparatory classes, . . . . “ From the Executive Order.

Openureyes, please open yours and your mind. It is just an example of the division this pres. is creating. I can just hear Sharpton an friends, if G.W. said and did the same for "white americans". It is sad, that people are so afraid to discuss minorities. People have opposite views, but rudness should be off and honesty and guts should be in. So, i just would like to know (recent example) how do you feel about the violence in Chicago with majority of black on black crime and the White house being so hush hush about it. Do you believe, that it should be a priority for this president, since it is getting worst, rather than separating Amer. kids in his order, where they have so many not taken opportunities?.

Rangers46 - having open eyes and a working mind, I chose to verify the letter writer's claim that this initiative will "give [black people] complete education from the time they are born till they get career." My mind was open to the possibility that she was right. I read the initiative, found nothing to substantiate her claim, and commented so.

She also claims that the president "believe[s] so many are being racist." I've never heard him say so, and that's not something as easily researched as a newly released initiative, so I asked her to verify this one herself.

These are the two main points of her letter. One is bunk and the other is suspicious at least and at best unsubstantiated. Should my eyes and mind have been open to the possibility of her being wrong about everything she said, but still right somehow?

I'm not afraid to discuss minorities and I wasn't being rude. The president sees a problem and is taking steps to have it addressed - why is this controversial? How is it creating division? Anyone from any political/ideological corner, when looking at the american socioeconomic reality broken down by race would see the same problem, and would not see the same situation for "white americans." So the notion that such an initiative for them would go over so very differently than this one ignores reality, which is why I urged her not to be a simpleton.

I feel that the violence in Chicago is obviously tragic, but far too common. Also the majority of "x"-on-black crime nationwide is black-on-black. So I don't think the white house is being hush hush about it. I think they're as desensitized to it as anyone, particularly with the first family having lived in Chicao. Actually, this initiative might go a long way towards improving the situation in Chicago and other areas where black-on-black crime is such a problem, so I'm still perplexed at the negative responses to it.

Centrist: I would say Executuve Orders are more than symbolic. How about the recent EO's that effectively grant amnesty to illegal aliens?

    VofR,
I think there may be a multitude of reasons, mostly I think it stems from a long tradition in this country to undervalue our citizens of color.
I will give this example, in 1920 Mesa Arizona had four elementary schools and one high school. The elementary schools were; Lehi, Irving, Washington and Webster. Lehi and Irving where for white children, the buildings still exist. Webster elementary was for the Mexican children whose families worked the farms on the south side of town. Lastly, Washington (actually Booker T. Washington) was a school for segregated black families whom, at the time, could purchase property only in a subdivision just north of University near Center St.
It was not until 1967 that B. T. Washington elementary closed and the children who grew up in the neighborhood were bussed to different schools in the area. I would be greatly surprised if you could find one alumni student of color from Mesa High before 1963.
If you were to walk around the old Washington district you might have a difficult time visualizing how depressed this neighborhood was. That is not to say that white families were not also living in difficult conditions, some were. However, white children went to school with a range of other students with family incomes from low to upper middleclass. More money, more energy more community support was devoted to the “white” schools.
In the past 50 years or so, in an attempt to address the plight of the Washington district, Mesa condemned and purchased most of the properties for redevelopment. Booker T. elementary was torn down in the 70’s (my guess) and has been replaced by a city park and a Head Start facility.

The story starts there, and could go on for pages but to say “Father” is the cause is an over simplification that lacks understanding.

"This Enrage Voter guy says things that the average onlooker may attribute to the insane"

If by "average onlooker" you mean someone who believes the Earth is 6000 years old, flat, and that humans didn't evolve, we were magically made from dirt...then yes, those kind of people do indeed attribute my fact-based, evidence-based assertions to the insane...they also think Joan of Arc was Noah's wife! LOL

Poor VofReason...he should probably take that word, Reason, out of his psuedonym, given his irrational rantings.

"naming the founding fathers as something other then mostly Christian men."
And backing up the claim with evidence...you forgot that part.
"EV must have a high degree of refusal to see reality"
Says the person with a faith-based worldview. Are you trying to be funny?

"In God we trust on our money (must have been an oversight?)"
Or put there generations after the Founding Fathers died?
Not on our paper currency until 1954...same with the Pledge.
(did you nap through American History class?)

    "ten commandments on Government buildings"
LOL!!! How ignorant! Those were MOVIE ADVERTISEMENTS for the Heston movie The Ten Commandments - THAT IS WHERE THOSE CAME FROM!

"hand on the Bible to swear into office"
No longer a requirement, anymore than using a Koran is.

"they must have pulled the wool over everyone's eyes"
SOMEONE has certainly had the wool over their eyes...but it doesn't appear anyone put it there. Willful ignorance is disgusting.
