I read Charles Krauthammer's article in the New York Daily News. A mosque at the 9/11 site would be out of place. He suggests a mosque in a further direction from this location.
I have Muslim friends and patients and they are good people who trust and respect a higher power. Most of them feel it is the wrong place for a mosque.
I lost my friend and mentor, Gary Bird, on that tragic day. He was going in for an orientation meeting for Marsh Insurance. He was the president of the Tempe Jaycees and the Tempe Boys and Girls Club. He taught me how to lead and become president of the Jaycees with no experience. He had pride in his clubs, jobs, community, but mostly for his family. Gary was killed and incinerated in the second tower on the 99th floor. Later Pat Tillman volunteered to go after Gary's killer, Osama Bin Laden, and his followers.
If you believe, like me, the spirit lives on, then how would they envision a mosque at Ground Zero?
