The Arizona House recently passed a bill onto the House floor that would oblige Arizona university students to pay $2,000 dollars of tuition out of pocket. This bill drastically increases student debt, which for an undergraduate student, is on average $21,000.
On top of increasing debt, this bill will deteriorate Arizona’s competitiveness in the global market. This bill will push students out of our state, reducing the amount of degrees issued from our universities. By 2018 there will be 2.2 million jobs for college graduates. Currently, Arizona will miss that goal by 3 million; if this bill passes, this statistic will only worsen.
Overall, it is ridiculous that our legislature is considering such a destructive bill. Therefore, it is necessary to stop HB 2675.
