I will be a Green Party candidate in Arizona's presidential primary. The U.S. should end its wars of aggression, eliminate foreign military aid, shut down foreign military bases, abolish weapons of mass destruction, and eliminate the CIA.

The winner-take-all voting system is a farce. We need proportional voting systems for legislative elections to end the two-party system and give voters real representation in government. If a party wins 5 percent of the vote, it should win 5 percent of the seats in Congress.

The office of the president has become a military dictatorship. We should switch to a parliamentary system with a weak chief executive who is chosen by Congress.

Congress should be able to remove the executive at any time on a vote of "no confidence."

I support a single payer national health insurance system.

I support carbon taxes to include environmental impacts in true cost pricing of new goods and services. We need an environmentally sustainable economy.

Arizona voters can register with the Green Party by Jan. 30 to vote in the Green presidential primary. Please vote for me on Feb. 28, and vote Green Party in November.

    Gary,

Are you familiar with the parlamentary system? It eliminates a seperate executive branch, replacing it with a prime minister and lower ministers choosen from parlament. Where there are multiple political parties in a country, whichever party an elected member of parlement hails from gets more representation. And parties can join together to form "a government," meaning electing the ministers. Power sharing is much more common.

Gary Swing, I see in the Forums column to the right of this letter, someone is asking if the East Valley Tribune is biased?

“Is there bias in the East Valley Tribune? I am a candidate for public office, and I cannot get the East Valley Tribune to publish my letters to the editor.”

It is a good question, and I hope you were not the one who asked. I appreciate your contribution to the Tribune, my hometown paper, to Arizona and to America. Thank-you

"The office of the president has become a military dictatorship." -- If that's true, what good would my vote be?

Personally, I think you wrote your letter as a lark so you'd get your "15 minutes of fame". However, if you are being serious, then you won't receive my vote because I believe most of your comments run contrary to mine.

Parliamentary systems don't work Just because our system doesn't either is no reason to switch to something we know doesn't work.
