I drive upwards of 60 miles a day for my job. While many of us in the East Valley have gotten used to the commute in and out of Phoenix, I don’t think any of us have gotten used to the outrageous cost of gas these days. In the past two months, the president has stopped the progress of the Keystone XL Pipeline twice. He did so once with a signature, and once with pressure on the Senate. Does he know how much we are struggling to keep up paying $4 a gallon? I know that he cites environmental concerns, but isn’t there a middle ground to be met that can satisfy our environment and help ease us economically? I hope so, because many of us cannot continue on the current economic path that our energy policies have put us in.

    Katie,

Have you looked into using the light rail and bus systems yet? You'd be surprised how much gasoline and money you can save. It will cost you considerable time, however, time you can spend doing work on a laptop or reading, or talking to fellow communers, who like you give up that "fast lane" life style.

    Katie Bouback,

You are not alone, concerning the abrupt sharp price increase at the gas pump

According to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll, it has begun to hurt President Obama's approval ratings as close to two-thirds of Americans disapprove of the way the he is handling the situation of skyrocketing gas prices.

But, that disapproval rating apparently does not include the Liberal Democratic Party in Lake County, Fla., who displayed an American flag featuring the face of President Obama – outside of their Democratic headquarters. Nancy Hurlbert, the chairwoman of Lake County Democratic Party, refused to say whether or not they would continue displaying the flag – not until they find out what their legal rights are.

Katie ... all of America understands how you feel.

But you haven't seen anything yet. And NO President will be able to do anything about the price of gas for any significant period. He may release the national reserves but they would be burned up in a few weeks.

The unfortunate truth is that we are burning ourselves out of house and home fuel wise. We have burned approximately half of all known oil reserves -- and there is little left to be found --- and due to the laws of supply and demand the price of gasoline is going to go way way higher in the future.

You would be well advised to either seek employment closer to home or to move closer to your employment.

The days of commuting long distances to and from work will soon be drawing to a close.

It's a very painful concept and Americans don't like it.

I fondly remember driving my 1967Jag E-type 130 mph on I 35 in Kansas ... but we can no longer indulge ourselves like that.

The pain you feel at the pump is like morning sickness for a pregnant woman --- much worse is coming.

    Katie,

In 2008 Bill O'Reiley said that if anyone maintained that the President could do anything about high gasoline prices, they were feeding you BS. O'Reiley and AZ willie are right. Accuracy is feeding you BS. How you like to eat BS. It's filling! Just ask Limbaugh's ditto heads!

    Katie,

If anybody is 20lbs. of manure stuffed into a 5lb. sack it's Dale. All Accuracy's post said is that President Obozo's approval rating is suffering for his handling of the gas prices. What Accuracy said is true. As usual, Captain Neo-Con sends his knee jerk reaction posts without any investigation or actually reading other people's posts.

Thanks Slabside...... Dale Whiting is known for posting his sarcastic “profanity” remarks.

One of the results of the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll did mark the reality of the damaging political effects of rising gasoline prices. Americans by a broad 65-26 percent disapprove of how President Obama is handling the price of gas.

The Liberal Democratic Party in Lake County, Tavares, Florida did modified a national flag of the United States of America (or the American flag) to thirteen equal horizontal stripes of red and white . . but also with a rectangle picture of Barack Obama in the top inner quarter of the flag.

There is enough oil in ANWR to supply the US at our present rate of usage for more than 200 years. The space that ANWR occupies in Alaska is equivalent to a postage stamp in the Mojave Desert yet the powers that be refuse to allow any drilling for fear it might affect this pristine wilderness. Where they are talking about drilling is a barren wasteland. Open Alaska for drilling and allow off shore drilling and there would be a glut of oil on the market. We wouldn't need to import oil. Do you think they want that? I don't think so. Our government, both democrat and republican, have been in bed with big oil and big banking for too long to give the game up now. You might as well just keep on dreaming if you think the American people are going to wake up anytime soon. Alert! Big government approves measure to stop raping Americans to death just as soon as they have it all and everyone is on the dole. Oh thank heavens. Relief is in sight. lol

Katie, maybe you should check your tire inflation like President Obama once told us. I mean the President is doing all he can with wind, solar and electric cars, stopping just short of allowing companies to drill for known oil. He really is doing all he can- isn't he?

Oh and any new drilling we do now wouldn't help us for years, so no reason to start now. I think we heard that one a few years ago too. I believe that they believe the populous is a bunch of lemmings just believing anything they are told. There are a few that visit here regularly, but I think most people realize it is a farce.

    Rational Human,

Sure you might be right. There could be 200 years of crude oil in ANWAR. But since it has not been explored, until we start drilling, you are only guessing. What has been explored and developed is now in a sharp production decline. And if I recall correctly, that area was larger than ANWAR. If so, I doubt that you are correct. And surely if ANWAR had 200 years of crude oil reserves, the oil companies and their lobyists would be campaigning to at least do some exploratory drilling.

ANWAR is on the northern Alaska coast line just east of what has been explored and west of Canada. And Canada is not drilling! No, Rational Human, I think you're wrong. But let's drill a few test wells and see what turns up!

Dale, the U.S. Department of Interior in 1987. After several years of surface geological investigations, aeromagnetic surveys, and two winter seismic surveys (in 1983-84 and 1984-85), the U.S. Department of Interior (DOI), in its April, 1987 report on the oil and gas potential of the Coastal Plain, estimated that there are billions of barrels of oil to be discovered in the area. DOI estimates that "in-place resources" range from 4.8 billion to 29.4 billion barrels of oil. Recoverable oil estimates ranges from 600 million barrels at the low end to 9.2 billion barrels at the high end. They also reported identifying 26 separate oil and gas prospects in the Coastal Plain that could each contain "super giant" fields (500 million barrels or more). The area is not an area worthy of environmentalists to stop exploration but they have. There is no good reason why the Obamanation isn't giving the go ahead, unless you understand that he wants the price of gas to go through the roof. They seem to think that is they make the cost high enough that alternative sources will suddenly appear out of thin air. Or maybe they really are trying to tank our economy. If they do that then the constitution is out the window for good and it's King Obama and the new era of communist America.

    Rational Human,

Let's turn to the dictionary. Rational: 1) Having or exercising the ability to reason. 2) Of sound mind; sane. 3) Consistent with or based on reason; Logical.

None of your reasoning about the Administration's policies pass the test of being rational. Now let's take a second try at being rational.

There are those who value ANWAR's pristine envornment above it's potential for natural resources, among them environmentalists [by definition, those who value maintenance of the environment]. However they do not have a particularly strong backing in the population. We see where, when pressed to rule in a hurry, President Obama turned down Keystone XL, not because he wants higher priced oil, but because there arrises out of Nebraska environmental concerns to keep safe from potential harm the Ogahala Aquifer. Nebraskans aren't perticularly environmentally conscious. Rather they like being able to drink water not fouled with hydrocarbons. So we see that President Obama is swayed by political pressures.

My solution. Let's press for some actual drilling.

Now, I was aware of all of this non-drilling exploration. And that science is usually, yet not always, good. But long term, we do need to wean our economy and the entire world economy off of fossil fuels, both foreign and domestic. You may not believe in global warming, but "rational" scientists do! Are you a rational climatologist?

Having oil prices rise modestly is the market way to encourage the development of alternative fuel sources. Or would you prefer that we have government do the R&D? Remember, on this last round of global warming controversy, even the Koch Brothers sponsored scientist confirmed the data on climate change. And boy, were they mad!

Here in the US, our consumption is down and our production is up. Market forces ought to be holding prices stable. The reason why oil prices have risen recently is due to non-consumer oriented futures trading coupled with some fear that even with Saudi increases in output, war with Iran would lead to the closure of the Straights of Hormuz.

So if you value lowering oil prices, join with me in my modern crusade to avoid making war with Iran. This is something the President can do and is attempting to do. But keeping Bibi Netayhahu's mouth zipped up ain't easy!
