With Congress sending up smoke signals that it might soon consider a new highway spending bill, it’s worth reminding lawmakers that Arizona is one of more than half of the states nationwide that sends more federal gas dollars to Washington than it gets back.
Because of the economic opportunities that a well-crafted measure could afford and an emerging political consensus for advancing such an effort, it is time for all involved parties to come together and craft a new transportation bill that benefits all of America, not just a few select states.
Our state’s transportation needs are real, but the current funding mechanism is coming up short for Arizona.

The fact is that we get $1.20 back for every dollar we send to Washington. Thanks for playing Selective Statistics with our host, Glenn Hammertime

http://www.taxfoundation.org/research/show/266.html Shows Federal Spending Received Per Dollar of Taxes Paid by State, 2005
Well Pat Youranass you must not have read the article. Let me highlight the pertinent part for you. "Arizona is one of more than half of the states nationwide that sends more FEDERAL GAS DOLLARS to Washington than it gets back."
Article isn't about total federal tax dollars. Federal gas tax is supposed to be spent for highway maintenance and construction. What I would like to see is the gas taxes just stay in Arizona. We don't need federal intrusion into how we spend our own money.

Once again, no need to apologize for your crude take on my name...[wink]
My comments were for the LETTER written...very different from an article. My point was that we are a welfare state when it comes to tax dollars. The author pulled out one type of tax and started to whine when it is all bull. You CANNOT pull one item out and cry "whoa is me" when all of the federal taxes put together show this state to take 20% more out than we put in.
On a serious note, why do you fiond the need to name call Human? I could easily have called you an idiot but I refrained. Couldn't you just argue with facts?[sad]
