First off (before the gloves are removed...lol), I want to thank Mr. Cherny for his service to our Nation in the US Navy Reserves. Something our Liberal Press and Media don't feel is important enough to be of mention in his profile.
What is a "Progressive"? He/she is a Liberal Wanna-be but doesn't have the guts to really "take the gloves off" and go "head to toe" with the Tea Party types (referred to by the Liberals as the.."knuckle-draggers"). Progressives are all "talk and no action". Our President Obama is the perfect example. His never-ending, grammatically and verbally correct "Tele-Promptered" speechs to all and sundry (even grammer school children are not exempt from the old...Tele-Prompter speech).
Progressives like to stay "above the fray in their Ivory Towers of Academia"...not "down in the trenches with the common folk". No "Henry the Fifth's "St. Crispin's Day" speeches for them...no getting the old hands dirty in the "muck of Politics". No, a beautifully worded and punctuated discertation in the Atlantic is as far as they will get near the "Battlefield of Washington, D.C. Politics". About as "low" as they will go is a small piece in the Huffington Post.
Progressives are the "Mr. Monk's" of the Political World. Always whinning and wiping their hands clean of the dirt of the "every day fray". While they envy the conviction of the Liberals they are afraid of their ties to Socialism, Marxism and Communism. They want a Guantanamo Prison to keep the Islamic Terrorists out of their lives but don't want to "know" anything about the day-to-day running of the place. They are always going back to America's Founding Fathers but they don't want to talk about or know about how these "RICH" landowners and business owners found the time to debate and create our Nation's Constitution and Bill of Rights. Progressives love the "idea" of the Continental Congress but they don't want to know that these 18th Century Politicians made their money from slaves either African and Indentured or child labor.
Bottom line, Progressives love to "talk the talk" but don't want to lower themselves to actually......."WALK THE WALK".

The three goals of "progressives" as stated in 1914: "extending the role of government, rooting out the power of privileged interests, and widening democracy."
It's a pity that Andrei and progressives in general can't see the inherent contradictions between the first goal and the other two. I guess it depends on what you mean when you think of the other two goals. If, by "democracy" you mean exercising one vote among thousands and millions for who will be the next dictator, I suppose you could say democracy is compatible with an expanded government. If, on the other hand, "democracy" means actual individual freedom, the two goals are fundamentally incompatible.
As Jonah Goldberg has so brilliantly pointed out in his book, Liberal Fascism, progressives have much more in common with past totalitarian regimes in Europe than American conservatives ever did. It would be refreshing if progressives would be honest about their real goals, which involve imposing their elitist wills on the rest of us - but for our own (we, the ignorant, unwashed masses) good, of course.

Concerning "Ten years after 9/11" Andrei Cherny wrote: “But even as it was already clear on September 11, 2001 that the attacks were a turning point in American history, no one could have foreseen the direction of that pivot.”
---------------------------------------------------
Now, at the upcoming 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 this Sunday, America will pause to remember the 3,000 people killed in the 9/11 attacks ten years ago.
But, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has banned clergy and prayer at the 10th anniversary commemoration ceremony of 9/11.
Bloomberg is against a non-denominational, clergy-led prayer at New York City's memorial event. And the mayor has dodged the potentially thorny issue of including a Muslim representative.
Mayor Bloomberg says New York firefighters will be excluded from the memorial, and is censoring the clergy and First Responders from speaking at the 9/11 ceremony this Sunday.
Among Bloomberg’s list of those who are not invited to attend the 9/11 ceremony; including police officers, medics, and fire fighters who were among the first responders on 11 September 2001.
Two steel girders, left standing in the form of a cross at Ground Zero, were hailed a sign of hope in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks by the New York firefighters. Mayor Bloomberg is also banning this cross at New York Ground Zero.

Government by National Referendum is what you calling for? You take away our representative form of government and replace it with national initiatives. Then I will vote for a !00% refund of my income taxes National Referendum. I'll will vote NO on your 100% income tax to pay for big government entitlement programs National Referendum. So where does that leave us? You want to gut the constitution and leave us with a "feel good at the moment" government. So much for the liberal/progressive/socialist point of view.
