Over this past July 4th, I was thinking about the founding of this country and the documents that made it great. Some people may not be aware of the Supreme Court’s modifications of the original documents, so, as a public service, here is one of those documents, the Declaration of Dependence:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men deserve equal outcomes, that they are endowed by the Government with certain inalienable entitlements, that among these are perpetual unemployment compensation, eternal welfare, and free health care. That to secure these entitlements, governments are instituted among men, deriving their powers from the ability to tax and regulate. That whenever any form of government becomes unwilling to provide these benefits, it is the right of the people to ignore the Constitution and elect new politicians, laying the foundation of the nanny state and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their perpetual and ever increasing entitlements...”

Bruce,
A masterful rendition of linguistics and rhyme. So sad it could become true.

Way to close to the bone for some of the commentors on this site. Many of them may read and knock over their Micheal Moore movies in a fit of rage.

Bruce,
I am among those who remain unware of what you assert as of fact, i.e. that "Some people may not be aware of the Supreme Court’s modifications of the original documents." It never has happened and never will.
However your continuation serves no purpose other than to misinform all of the other Neo-cons frequenting this site.
I fully agree with the essence of the quotation from Franklin. Thank you, Leon. But I disagree with chatman. Your fears will not become true. Have you forgotten how quickly our liberal democrat friends withdrew from the "War on Poverty" when it's primary lieutenant, Pat Moynahan admitted it was a failure?
Now we must content with the Libertarian, Tea Party, Neoconservative movements, movements forseen by William F. Buckley, Jr. and his son. Even Barry Goldwater could not be "conservative enough" to be "Mr. Conservative" today.
No, thanks. Bruce. Your rhetoric is full of sound and furry, but only signifies the full swing of the political pendulum towards the right. Very soon it will start its journey back towards the center, the center first occupied by old Ben himself.

leon: is your caps lock stuck again? you may have something worthwhile to say but i will never know. i pay no attention to people who shout all the time.

Bruce… I recognize that your letter is intended as satire, parody or sarcasm and is funny in a scary way. Unfortunately entitlements are as much as half the federal budget. Add another 25% for interest on the federal debt plus fixed commitments and you have only about a quarter of the budget to play with. Congress is responsible for the waste. Don’t blame the pigs for bellying up to the trough when the farmer fills it with caviar.
Dale; You’re home schooled but you must have learned reading comprehension someplace. Or did you leave it behind in Utah? And try replacing your “neo-con” shtick with a sense of humor. No one can miss a point as far as you do unless it’s on purpose.
california leon; looks like someone found your comment offensive and had it removed. Good! It’s one less bumbling tirade we have to ignore. Good riddance.

Baloney – Bruce, you are probably a white Anglo-Saxon protestant. You are probably middle class, and you probably have received benefit from workmen compensation. Those that receive unemployment compensation have paid into the system before they can receive money from it. So, you would have had your just deserts.
The unemployment rate has NEVER been below 3%. A percentage of the population will always be unemployed. In our most recent economic boom, 2006, unemployment did not drop below 4.4 percent. Government assistance for those who are unemployed does not reflect an “equal outcome” . There remain the 1% who are ultra-wealthy. You could aspire to earn more wealth, Bruce, you might stop complaining about those who have not, but I will guess that you are middle-age and have gained most of the assets you will ever have.
I cannot say who paid for your first child, but the majority of young couples have to seek government healthcare assistance for the cost of prenatal care, childbirth as well as medicines, vaccines, etcetera after the child is born. The cost of insurance for young couples is most often too expensive. However, as a protestant or even if you are Catholic, I will wager that you are not campaigning for fewer children (except, maybe those children of a particular decent).
These are all generalities Bruce, but then, so is your letter.

Cerulean. He is probably white so never excepted entitlements? What are you trying to say here? The majority of couples have someone else pay for the birth and healthcare of their first child? Really? I have to say I don't know too many people who had to have the Government pay for the birth of their first or any other of their children. I would add that how irresponsible is it to bring a child into the world that you cannot even pay for it's birth? How would you feed them, buy diapers, etc. Or is that all to be the Government also. This is the problem. At some point, people began believing that it was someone else's responsibility to pay for bad decisions in life- not learning to read, do math, graduate from High School, get pregnant while unmarried, get pregnant too young, etc etc. When did people get a pass for being irresponsible an unaccountable?
VofReason posted at 12:54 pm on Thu, Jul 12, 2012.
Maybe Cerulean is right. Maybe the Government needs to help irresponsible people not have to make the "difficult" decisions of whether they are financially or mentally responsible enough to do adult things like bring the blessing of life into the world.

sockratties,
I'm happy to match your transcripts any day. A bachelors, an M.B.A and a J.D. Including various insundry part time studies, I have a total of 12 years worth of college credits, most with top of the class standings.
And yes, I can spot when people might be teasing.
Bruce, were you teasing or are you serious? Apparently VoR and chatman took you seriously! Must have missed Leon, caps and all. Leon, take a second crack at it, why don't you?
Engaged Voter posted at 4:36 pm on Thu, Jul 12, 2012.
Dale, I will not "tease" or insult your education or intelligence.
But man, you need to take 5 seconds to proofread your comments!
Things like "sound and furry" and "various insundry".
First one is a typo, I get that....but "various insundry"...what the heck? I believe you were attempting to use the phrase "various and sundry"...
I generally say nothing - just chuckle to myself - but, if for no other reason than to minimize the ad hominem attacks, you might want to take my advice.
Cerulean posted at 8:11 pm on Thu, Jul 12, 2012.
Speaking of using the wrong spelling, VofR, you should have used accepted rather than “excepted”.

Engaged,
I note that your comment number is 299 and mine is 3375. I'm busy, too busy to cut and paste into and out of a spell checker. And although many of your predecessors have complained about my typo's and absolute spelling faux paus, I don't care. Take me as I come. I ceeded the spot at the head of the class on spelling in third grade to Katty. She could spell anything.
Dale Whiting posted at 9:08 pm on Fri, Jul 13, 2012.
P.S.
I do proof read my articles. Leon and I are just about the only commenters who do write articles and we use our own real names. What's your real name? Are you still just engaged? Out about tying the knot?
sockratties posted at 11:27 am on Sat, Jul 14, 2012.
Dale
A "number of postings" snob? Silly. Real name? Who knows (or cares) what your real name is, other than you and california leon. I think you “ceded” the spot to Katty. Or were you planting something as in seeded? And was her name Catty as in snippy and sharp tongued, or was it Kathy? Must be that lawyer thing keeping you too busy to make sense.

Dale,
"I note that your comment number is 299 and mine is 3375."
Also note that no one hacked your username, or made one with similar spelling (missing or added one letter) and then posted vulgarity, resulting in the loss of said username. You should know better by now than to ASSume. ;)
"I ceeded the spot "
You mean ceded? Sheesh?
Also, what the heck is a "sudonym"...hooked on phonics gone bad?
Do you even know what a PSUEDONYM is??
Engaged Voter posted at 4:22 pm on Mon, Jul 16, 2012.
"What's your real name?"
No thanks, your fellow religious nutcases have already made it very clear what they will do should they get ahold of my personal information.
Let's see Leon take on Islam...and watch a pseudonym appear overnight!
PSEUDONYM(not withstanding typos)...are we taking notes, Dale?

"I do proof read my articles"
Proofread. One word.
Try harder.
