There has been a lot of discussion, news reporting and investigations about the Maricopa County Sheriff not investigating sex crimes, misspending huge amounts of money, generating a slow moving tsunami of lawsuits, engaging in egregious discrimination against Latinos, losing most of its highest level command staff, and generally not running a competent professional law enforcement agency. But there is one issue that has been utterly ignored.  How many innocent people have been injured by our sheriff?

How many investigations were so seriously botched that they ended with the wrong man? How many innocent people have been coerced into a plea agreement rather than face a return to the 145-degree tents? How many innocent people with limited ability to read English have agreed to they-knew-not-what under similar coercion? What else may have happened to the innocent with such a troubled law enforcement agency?

The innocent will be hard to identify, but incompetent, corrupt and biased law enforcement will produce many more such victims than professional, honest, bias-free policing. Who will speak for these victims?
