The Republican party wants us to believe that the unemployment rate of 8.2 percent reflects negatively on Obama’s economic policies. My question is compared to what?

The eurozone’s current unemployment is 11 percent. Spain’s is 24 percent, France 9.8, India 9.4, Ireland 14.3, Italy 10.2, Egypt 12.4, Saudi Arabia 10.5 and Greece 22.

In 2009 our unemployment during the great recession reached 9.9 percent at that time the United Kingdom was at 8.1 percent today our unemployment has gone down to 8.2 percent and the United Kingdom has gone up to 8.2. The eurozone went from 9.4 percent in 2009 to a current rate of 11 percent.

Again, Obama is doing a poor job compared to what?

Finally, during the Great Depression unemployment reached 24.9 percent, during the recession of early 1980 unemployment reached 10.8 percent during Reagan’s presidency. Obama was able to reverse the trend in unemployment during the worst worldwide recession in our lifetime.

GRACIAS AL PRESIDENTE OBAMA POR LOS "PERMITES DE TRABAJO" POR DOS MILLIONES DE MEXICANOS, EL SALVADORENOS, GUATAMALECOS Y HONDURANOS..........LOS EXTRANOS ILLEGALES DE LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS.

Yes, this Friday, our Democrat President Barack Hussein Obama just threw 2 Million "Legal/Native-Born" Americans under the bus when he gave work permits to 2 million ILLEGAL ALIENS from the ages of 18 - 30 years old.

    IF YOU WERE AN EMPLOYER AND YOU HAD 2 JOB APPLICANTS;

    1. A LEGAL OR NATIVE-BORN AMERICAN WHO HAS APPLIED FOR A JOB PAYING $14.00 AN HOUR WITH 2 WEEKS VACATION.

    2. AN ILLEGAL ALIEN WITH A WORK PERMINT WHO HAS APPLIED FOR A JOB AND IS WILLING TO TAKE THE MINIMUM WAGE OF $7.85 WITH "NO" VACATION TIME OFF.

    WHO WOULD YOU HIRE ?????

    Leon doesn't seem to understand:

    1. The actual number ELIGIBLE is around 800,000. The number who actually apply for work permits will probably not exceed 500,000. See Leon, 75% of the problem solved in just 19 words.

    2. These young people are not getting a free ride. They're not eligible for any government benefits. Except we won't let them die in the streets, they can go to the ER. But these are young people who use health care far, far less than the average citizen of, say, Sun City or Leisure World. And we did educate them. Of course, their parents were paying property and sales taxes, which fund the schools.

Like I said, no free ride: no food stamps, no unemployment insurance, no cash benefits, no AHCCCS, no Social Security, no scholarships, no nothing, etc.

So what do they do? Work. They're already working. Got that?

    THEY ARE ALREADY WORKING !!

Somehow they managed to find work and support themselves while the natives whine about unemployment and collect all kinds of benefits.

And what now? Just try thinking a little bit Leon. It shouldn't hurt too much. Now that they can come out of the shadows, some will go back to school, leaving job openings for those poor natives who couldn't find work.

    3. Leon doesn't get the perspective. There are 180 million people employed in the US. This policy deals with 800,000 people, of whom maybe 500,000 may apply for work permits. Of those, nearly all are already working. Some will now leave the work force. The net effect will be to make the job market a tiny bit less competitive - more jobs for the natives, not less. But the effect will so small as to be undectable.

    4. As for employers: Who do you hire? The guy who could well be gone in two years, or maybe two weeks if the Republicans have their way? Or the guy who might stick around. By the way, who says Dreamers are stupid? They'll take the $14 an hour job.

But maybe Leon doesn't care about what happens in the real world. He's too wrapped up in his pathological fears of the "other." He's in his own dream.

Robert Ricker’s question: “Again, Obama is doing a poor job compared to what?”

Barak Obama campaign promises……… That’s what!

Obama has made a boatload of promises for the economy – cut the deficit in half, double exports and slash unemployment.

Obama pledged to bring back the jobs lost in 2007 and 2008. In 2009 the nation’s unemployment went from 7 percent in 2008 to 9.6 percent (in some areas 17 percent).

Obama later promised less than 7 percent unemployment by the end of 2010 in his State of the Union Address that year – when he passed the second round of stimulus the prior year. Promised that unemployment would not exceed 8% and shovel ready jobs were available to jump start the economy.

The economy added just 69,000 jobs in May, well below expectations of 150,000, and the unemployment rate ticked up to 8.2 percent, the Labor Department announced last month. Unemployment has risen as high as 9.6 percent and is currently at 8.2 percent. That’s far above the 7 percent promised.

Accuracy is having a hard time accurately using the word "promise." He seems to have it confused with forecast and plan.

Obama's inability to get the unemployment rate below 8% is a tribute to Republican control of the House and the partial success of their grand plan to sabotage the economy in hopes Obama wouldn't be re-elected.

    Very public spirited.

"Keeping America's Promise", were the remarks by Barack Obama in Janesville, Wisconsin, February 13, 2008 . . . Not Obama's forecast or plan. “I am certain that we can keep America's promise – for this generation and the next,” promised Obama in 2008. “So today, I'm laying out a comprehensive agenda to reclaim our dream and restore our prosperity. It's an agenda that focuses on three broad economic challenges that the next President must address – the current housing crisis; the cost crisis facing the middle-class and those struggling to join it; and the need to create millions of good jobs right here in America – jobs that can't be outsourced and won't disappear,” Obama stated in Janesville, WI.

Now, in June, 2012 – according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics – More than twenty-three million Americans are unemployed, underemployed, or have stopped looking for work.

Robert says. "Again, Obama is doing a poor job compared to what?"

How about compared to his own words. He hasn't reached his own goals of unemployment and jobs after getting his stimulus plan passed. Obama said that if he didn't reach his own goals then he should be a one term president. I say let's hold Obama to his word and make him a one term president.

    bobunf doesn't seem to understand.

Illegal migrants have already undercut American citizens to force American citizens into collecting unemployment and other benefits to survive. They are willing to do the work for half the pay and fewer benefits. They have made a significant impact on unemployment and other benefits by being here. You make it sound like they are just hard working people who are doing the work that American citizens won't do.

So why does Obongo's illegal circumvention of congress offend us? I mean besides the fact that it ignores the US Constitution. It doesn't really do very much. It's just a gimmick to fool the American Hispanic voters into thinking Obongo is out to help them to secure their vote. What it really is is just another small step in bringing America to its knees that his globalist masters want. One more small step towards world control. One more step in destroying American sovereignty.

For bobunf it is a way to greater power for himself, a Hispanic politician with goals of greater power for his self. Don't deny it bob. We know you.

    Robert,

How dare you cast dispersions on the Great Communicator [and one time Democrat], Ronald Reagan! And of course things are worse today in Socialist Europe and were worse during the reign of that villian FDR! Why, if we had only elected John McCain in 2008, we'd be making more goods today than China! Now if we can only elect George Romney's son, Mitt, we can start an immeciate recovery, never mind what the economic experts all say!

I can't figure out why Mitt wanted to let Detroit crumble when his father was a force in Detroit which changed car manufacturing in the late 50"s. I guess Mitt was too young to understand. As Detroit [GM, Chrysler, Ford] goes, so goes the nation. We, not our politicians, are to blaim. Oh if only George Romney were running!

Yes Mr. Ricker, you have bought into the meme....let's compare ourselves to World Powers like Ireland, Italy, Egypt, and Greece.

Is this what you tell your children? "Hey look son, our unemployment rate is lower than Egypt! We're number 39! We're number 39! Obama saved us from being number 40!"

Good God. This is America, Economic Powerhouse. Not some two bit Socialist paradise or backwater second world Muslim country. Get a grip.

chuckles3, you are correct. Those power-hungry people in the Middle East have brought their countries down to worse-than-poverty levels, especially Greece.

Rational seems to be approaching a total melt down. The seven million or so illegal workers in this country - the ones who came as young men not speaking English, with 3rd grade Mexican educations, with no understanding of the milieu into which they were moving, without legal status and all the difficulties that entails - these young men, and some women, were somehow able to take away jobs from Americans who benefited from knowing English, who had at least the opportunity for a free American education through high school and, in many cases, beyond, who had familiarity with the culture and who had legal status.

You can't compete with these people? What's wrong with you?

And letting kids who've spent their whole lives here, continue to stay here will bring "America to its knees" for the benefit of "globalist masters." I wonder who that would be? The Jews?

Then per Rational we can look forward to "world control" and "destroying American sovereignty."

Good Lord. If we're that incapable and that fragile, maybe we should just give up and let the Latinos run things. They are not such delicate flowers.

pay a person less for doing the same work, but not passing the cost savings to your customers. then complain when you have to pay more for help and can't charge more for your products. funny how that works.

Not at all wdgnas – especially when it comes to Obama's political promises and lies . . . Even if you leave the "tooth" out!

No bob, when I'm paid 17 dollars an hour for construction work, I can't compete with someone who will do the same work for 8 dollars an hour and ask for no vacation, overtime pay, or health insurance. Would you? Someone benefits from cheap labor, but the taxpayers have to pay for these peoples health care and other social services, so in the end only the corporation gets a benefit and the taxpayers (the one's who still have jobs) get the shaft once more. That is the formula that is driving Calif into the dirt economically. Here in AZ we have a different plan. Sorry bob but our plan wont give you any political power. Maybe less.

"Good Lord. If we're that incapable and that fragile, maybe we should just give up and let the Latinos run things. They are not such delicate flowers." No, they are anything but delicate. When you are use to the conditions that exist in Mexico, anything here in America is luxurious living. Having several families living under one roof and government social services paying for practically all your needs, life is ten times better than in Mexico for the uneducated importation of poverty. Even bums on the street have it better than your average peon in Mexico. These people will suffer great indignities by our standards to take the food right out of your children's mouths. bob says that is a good thing and maybe we should let the Latinos run things. We know who and what you are bob. We know what country you secretly pay allegiance to. You play politics bob so I know you know who rules behind the curtains. Some are Jewish, but most are big money who seek world domination. They ran Bush, Clinton, and now Obongo. Go ahead and pretend their is no one behind the curtains if you want. We know who you are.

Wonder what they say about the trend on Community Organizers that haven't run so much as a lemonade stand? Has to be better then a man who ran a corporation to (gasp) profitability- no?

The economic incentives that drive immigration conflict with the laws designed to regulate it. Fighting economic forces in a market economy like the United States is an impossible task. If the market is creating demand there is an economic benefit when that demand is fulfilled: we are all better off. One must not believe in the free-enterprise/market-economy system to think otherwise.

The overriding impact of immigrants has been, and is, to strengthen and enrich American culture, increase the total output of the economy, and raise the standard of living of American citizens.

Immigrants are advantageous to the United States for several reasons:
    (1) Since they are willing to take a chance in a new land, they are self-selected on the basis of motivation, risk taking, work ethic, and other attributes beneficial to a nation.
    (2) They tend to come to the United States during their prime working years (the average age is 28), and they contribute to the workforce and make huge net contributions to old-age entitlement programs, primarily Social Security.
    (3) Immigrants tend to fill niches in the labor market where demand is highest relative to supply, complementing rather than directly competing with American workers.
    (4) Many immigrants arrive with extremely high skill levels, and virtually all, regardless of skill level, bring a strong desire to work.
    (5) Their children tend to reach high levels of achievement in American schools and in society at large.

These rabid, anti immigrant conversations are juvenile, emotionally devoid of any maturity, and largely intellectually dishonest.
