Looks like Leon Panetta is headed from the CIA to the Pentagon and General Patraeus is headed from Afghanistan to the CIA. Lucky them! Wonder who gets stuck with Afghanistan?
For any of you who did not read every last word in that 2010 article in Rolling Stone about General Stanley McChrystal, know this: McChrystal found himself caught between wanting to protect his men, who under the imposed conditions needed to fight an elusive enemy on their home turf with one hand tied behind their backs, and the geo-political reality which prevented his men from adequately defending themselves. McChrystal could not face ordering his men out on dangerous patrols, so he went out with them so that why did not feel taken advantage of.
McChrystal came to realize that we had no business which we could accomplish in Afghanistan, and indiscreetly telling all was the only way to bring attention to this problem. McChrystal is a hero, one who was thrown under the bus for telling us the truth.
Cut defense spending now and bring most all of the combat forces home from both Afghanistan and Iraq. They would be put to much better use in homeland defense than in conflicts on foreign soil which only serve to recruit more militants.

P.S.
The editors took off my lest sentence. It read, "If you have not read the Rolling Stone piece, you are not qualified to comment on this piece!"
The Rolling Stone article is still available on line. READ IT or forever hold you piece!
