Is it any wonder more and more folks, to include yours truly, are less enthusiastic and interested in the upcoming federal election and the candidates involved. As one watches their speeches and TV ads, one can only liken them to “static noise.”

The candidates are informing us of nothing but controversy about the opposition. Not one has laid out how they’re going to effectively correct any of the multitude of problems awaiting them. The TV ad for Carmona’s Senate race tells the viewer Carmona is backed by Obama and indicates he’s a “centrist” by blaming both the Republican and Democratic party policies, while telling us Flake is “backed by McCain and Kyl.” Personally I don’t give a hoot who’s backing them, who’s at fault nor how much they paid in taxes; I want to know how each is planning to fix this troubled nation.

    Barry,
You ask for specifics to fix our countries problems, yet any solutions offered by a candidate will be fodder for every newscast and political pundit for rest of the election cycle. Any realistic solutions will require pain and sacrifice from everyone while the media pundits and political opponents will cry foul for any such pain or sacrifice. If you don't understand the candidate's position on any subject by now, you are failing your responsibility as a voter to get informed. I'm sure most candidates have websites that state their positions on various issues.

Business wants illegal alien cheap labor and BUSINESS WILL GET IT.

    OR ELSE.

    Money ALWAYS wins.

Corporate and personal greed has caused millions of American jobs to be shipped overseas by companies that were making fine profits while making their products right here in the U.S.A.

Corporate and personal greed is behind the desire to bring millions of illegal aliens into the country so they can be made to ignore wage and hour laws and safety laws out of fear for their jobs and deportation.

GREED will be what brings this once nation to it's knees and tears it apart.

All the great Empires fell from within.

    Our turn is coming.

Barry......While I agree with you that most of what one sees and hears thus far is pretty much worthless, one thing is certain. Obama must not be re-elected. We may base this upon his record, both since taking the presidency and from his public performance and statements prior. He will be an unmitigated disaster for the country, and especially if the Dems retain control of the Senate, or Heaven forbid, actually control both Houses. Do you want more "we must pass this before you can find out what is in it" legislation?

As for Romney, his record of personal success in business, plus his record of governorship of Mass, help in determining his potential, but I put more stock in Paul Ryan and his economic plan as the model which Romney will generally follow if elected. While far from perfect, it does make an honest attempt to address our fiscal problems. Anyone who has been paying attention at all ought to have his mind made up already, IMHO......and if not definitely FOR Romney, at least 100% against Obama.

Many of us share your distain for negative campaigning. At one time it was confined to posters, pamphlets and newspapers. Now, in the misinformation age, it has come into its own, proven effective, and will continue. Politics has become pop culture and a popularity contest; a kind of reality TV. Even media “debates” get skewed to emphasize the most entertaining, not the most relevant, issues. Add in millions of dollars and you have an industry all its own… an info-tainment industry working for whoever will pay the bills.

On the other hand, is it likely that a candidate who tells you the truth would get elected? If he told you you’re going to have to pay more taxes to reduce the debt, you’re going to get less government services, it’s your fault jobs moved overseas because you weren’t willing to pay for American made products, you are the one that bought a home costing three times what you could afford, your kids don’t learn in school because you dump the responsibility for them getting an education on the schools and ignore them at home, you bought the foreign car because it is more reliable but you also voted your shares in your auto industry portfolio to make sure the bottom line each quarter was at max so they didn’t put enough into quality control and development, would you have voted for him? Of course not.

You’re going to get what you paid for, the best president that money can buy.

JNelson, I could not disagree more. Ryan’s tax plan would cut taxes for most everyone. However, in order to balance the budget Congress would have to agree to cut every exemption on the books and that ain’t going to happen!
Not only that but Romney/Ryan want to increase defense spending which means increased deficits. So there is going to have to be compromises made. I would rather have President Obama at the helm when the compromise is made.

Twelve years ago Republican’s knew they had to eliminate the Bush tax cuts and that is why they wrote in the expiration clause. Lets follow through. Lets hold Republicans to their word and just eliminate the Bush tax cuts.

Socratties comment is pretty much right on.

Ryan's subjugation to the ultra religious right scares the hell out of me. His stance on women's rights should also concern most voters as he would strip women of any gains they have made over the past 50 years. If Republicans really want to win a presidential election, they should select a moderate candidate like Jon Huntsman, also a former governor, a Mormon and a former ambassador to China. There is a Republican I could support, unfortunately with the choices before me, I'll probably vote for Obama as the lesser of evils.

Retiree2000-- I too would have liked to see Jon Huntsman in the race, but pop-politics and the system managed to lose him along the way. If he were to run as an independent in 2016 I would give him serious consideration.
