Notwithstanding this praise, we Mormons have much to improve upon. For as Paul once observed, "We all have sinned and fallen short."
Where Lawrence Wright believes that "Mormons have managed to make themselves into an ethnic group without any of the usual markers of ethnicity," I would observe that this stems from its agressive world wide evangelism and prosceliting, undertaken by a broad range of its membership.
And the Utah Compact is an example of how a traditionally conservative group having experience with Central and South Americans and valuing family, seeks to find solutions to the illegal immigration problem without causing more harm than benefit.
We Mormons do have a few exceptions to this rule. One is Glen Beck, a reforming alcoholic convert, and Russell Pearce, a deputy sheriff with too much of his experience on the dark side clouding his judgement.

"This work ethic suits a people who[m YOU think] believe that worldly success translates into industrious eternal fulfillment."
I recommend a review of the LDS "Articles of Faith" to understand better what we believe. Really, the (unstated) believe is Service ... to others and thus to God.

And joseph smith was "enlightened by GOD" to reveal "the book of mormon". Give me a break----this psycopath had "illusions of grandeur" and convinced a few week-minded followers to accept his dogma. Welcome to a mild form of the "jim jones reality show". The King James version is all one needs, not an added interpretation.

k33j88,
In the judgement of some "psycopath[s with] "illusions of grandeur" have ruled the earth for five thousand years. What makes your opinion correct? "Judge not that ye be not judged" is a thought from your King James version. Why don't you pick it up and read it sometime?
