The Chandler Unified School District governing board approved a $289 million budget Wednesday night for the upcoming school year.
The budget includes $199 million in maintenance and operations, compared with $205 million last year, said Terry Locke, district spokesman.
The maintenance and operations portion of the budget pays for the majority of instructional costs, student transportation, general upkeep of district facilities and district administration and support.
