The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is resuming its search for a missing Mesa man in the desert where he went riding on his ATV.

Michael Karpouskie, 51, went riding about 9 p.m. Saturday and didn't return. His ATV was found Sunday where the Sycamore and Verde rivers join.

Capt. Paul Chagolla, Sheriff's Office spokesman, said search teams will follow tracks they believe are Karpouskie's that lead to the water's edge.

"If we're not able to locate the tracks on the opposite side, we're going to move into the water," Chagolla said.

Karpouskie had gone to the Seven Springs area with others, who told searchers his ATV had been having mechanical problems.

They reported him missing about 8 a.m. Sunday.
