A federal fugitive on the Scottsdale Police Department’s most wanted list was apprehended Monday by U.S. Marshals in Los Angeles.
Ronald Sipes, 36, of Phoenix was being sought by Scottsdale police for aggravated assault on Dec. 23.
Sipes repeatedly beat his girlfriend and burned her repeatedly with a blowtorch in a room at a Motel 6, according to police.
In addition, Sipes had an outstanding warrant issued on Dec. 12 by the U.S. District Court in Phoenix for violating conditions of his supervised release. Sipes is on supervised release after being convicted in 1999 for methamphetamine charges and sentenced to 51 months.
On June 6, U.S. Marshals in Phoenix alerted marshals in Los Angeles that Sipes was living in the Eagle Rock area. He was taken into custody without incident about 1:15 p.m. Monday near his parked recreational vehicle.
He was later arraigned in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles and ordered to be detained pending removal back to the Valley.
