The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is looking into allegations a commander tried to get a ticket dismissed for a friend.

Capt. Dan Whelan, a 24-year veteran of the agency, has been put on paid administrative leave. Whelan is in charge of the office’s property and evidence area.

“We have launched a criminal investigation and an internal investigation,” MCSO spokesman Capt. Paul Chagolla said Sunday.

According to Chagolla, Chandler police contacted MCSO on Friday about the allegation. Details about the ticket were not immediately known.
