Mesa police are investigating an apparent stabbing death that they believe occurred late Sunday afternoon.
Police responded to a 911 call about a domestic dispute at about 6:45 p.m. in the 1300 block of East Sixth Avenue near Broadway Road and Stapley Drive. When officers arrived, they saw a man at the front door who had cuts and abrasions on his body and, at first, was uncooperative.
After officers took the man into custody, other officers checking the house found a 26-year-old woman in it with no signs of life. Mesa Detective Steve Berry said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. He said she apparently died of stab wounds.
Police questioned the man after he was taken to an area hospital. Berry said the man is considered an investigative lead.
The man’s name and that of the dead woman haven’t been released. Berry said an investigation is ongoing.
