Mesa resident Debbie Ormrod has a question about a sign on Loop 202.

“Going westbound near Val Vista Drive heading toward McDowell Road, there is a sign for McDowell, but not very many people know that you have to take McDowell to get to Gilbert Road,” she said.

“Why do they not have a sign that says, ‘Gilbert Road exit here’? If you don’t know that, you have to go all the way to Country Club Drive to get back to Gilbert.”

On signs, the state uses the name of the road to which the freeway is physically connected, said Matt Burdick, Arizona Department of Transportation spokesman.

“We have two Loop 202 ramps at McDowell that allow freeway drivers going west to exit at McDowell and an on-ramp on McDowell to enter the Loop 202 and go east,” he said. "Drivers heading west on the Loop 202 can exit at McDowell and go west on McDowell to reach Gilbert. The same situation exists at Gilbert, where traffic heading east on the Loop 202 exits at Gilbert and turns north to reach McDowell.”

When streets change names at freeway intersections, such as where Pima Road and 90th Street meet Loop 101, ADOT includes both names, Burdick said.

Temporary signals to ease congestion

Since last fall, Chandler has installed temporary signals to reduce delays at some of south Chandler’s more congested four-way stop intersections. Temporary signals have been installed at Dobson and Germann, Dobson and Pecos, McQueen and Pecos, and McQueen and Germann roads.

Intersection work almost finished

For those of you who are tired of the intersection widening work at Indian School and Hayden roads in Scottsdale, officials say construction is in its final stage.

Officials say that the widening of the intersection at Indian School and Hayden roads in Scottsdale is almost finished.

The intersection will be restricted to one lane in all directions Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for final paving. Drivers can take Thomas or Chaparral roads for an east-west alternative, and Miller or Pima roads for north-south traffic should take alternate routes, such as Thomas or Chaparral roads for east-west traffic and Miller and Pima roads for north-south traffic.
