Candidates for the Guadalupe Town Council will debate tonight in advance of Tuesday’s election. Four positions will be filled in this year’s election — and voters have four candidates on the ballot from which to choose. However, three write-in candidates have also qualified.
The candidates include the current mayor, chosen by the council, and a former mayor who is one of the write-in candidates.
The printed ballot candidates are:
• Mayor Bernadette Jimenez
• Councilman Rodrigo Flores
• Councilman Saturnino Flores
• Alma Youlanda Solarez
A fifth person, Joe Corales, is on the ballot but withdrew after it was printed. The town will post signs at the polling places to remind voters that Corales withdrew, Town Clerk RoseMary Arellano said.
The write-in candidates are:
• Former Mayor Vinicio Alvarez Sr.
• Frankie Montiel
• Melonie Ramos
Voters can cast their ballots from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Town Hall, 9241 S. Avenida del Yaqui.
Candidates will win election outright if they receive more than 50 percent of the votes. If a runoff is needed, voters will return to the polls May 15.
