The Arizona Legislature adopted a resolution Thursday honoring Gilbert Police Lt. Eric Shuhandler, who died Jan. 28 after he was shot during a traffic stop at Val Vista and Baseline roads.
The resolution was read on the House of Representatives floor and included a retrospective of his career, the last 16 years of which were spent at the Gilbert Police Department. He was promoted from officer to sergeant in 2003 and lieutenant in 2006, and was named Employee of the Year in 1997 and nominated for the honor "numerous" other times, the resolution said.
Gilbert Mayor John Lewis, family members and other representatives were present for the resolution.
