Mesa board decides Jordan school's fate tonight

The fate of Jordan Elementary School is on the agenda tonight when the Mesa school board is expected to vote on whether to close the school.

Community worries about Jordan school's fate

This will be the second public hearing before the board on the issue. Hundreds of parents and staff attended the first hearing.

The Mesa Unified School District is considering closing the school, located in north Chandler, as part of a plan to make budget cuts to address increased expenses and declining enrollment. The board meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the District Curriculum Services Center, 549 N. Stapley Drive.

Before the meeting, at 6 p.m., a group of librarians is expected to protest another district cost-saving plan outside of the curriculum center. The protest is in response to the district’s proposal to phase out certified teacher-librarians and replace them with other specialists, among other changes to the district’s library staffing.
