Arizona Sen. John McCain's office says he is canceling a Friday visit to Flagstaff because of the death of Massachusetts Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.
A McCain spokeswoman said Wednesday that the senator will travel to Boston to attend services for his longtime colleague.
McCain was scheduled to be part of a panel at a Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce event on Friday and planned several private meetings.
McCain issued a statement on Kennedy's passing, saying "My friend, Ted Kennedy, was famous before he was accomplished. But by the end of his life he had become irreplaceable in the institution he loved and in the affections of its members."
McCain says the Senate will seem a quieter and less impressive place without Kennedy's presence.
