The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office on Monday announced a 20-count felony grand jury indictment against a Mesa woman accused of prostituting her 13-year-old daughter.

The indictment — on charges of child prostitution, attempted prostitution and involving a minor in a drug offense — supersedes a direct complaint filed last week against JoAndrea Peeler, 36, of Mesa by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, spokesman Bill FitzGerald said.

Peeler, who was arrested Aug. 26 and is accused of encouraging her daughter to have sex with men to finance their crack cocaine habit, faces more charges under the new indictment.

The charges stem from the first time Peeler let her daughter take a "hit" from her crack pipe in January, and also the first time she encouraged the girl to have sex with a drug dealer, according to court records.

In that incident, Peeler was asking a dealer to "front" her some drugs in exchange for sex, court records said. The dealer agreed, but said he wanted to have sex with Peeler’s daughter instead, court records indicated.

Peeler’s daughter is in the custody of Arizona Child Protective Services. If convicted, Peeler could spend the rest of her life in prison. Her arraignment is set for Sept. 18.
