The unsolved slaying of a 44-year-old woman found naked in a Mesa street in October has been linked by forensic evidence to a similar unsolved killing in 2004.

Mesa police announced late Saturday a connection in the deaths of Karen Jane Campbell and Alisa Marie Beck. Officers declined to say how the crimes are linked.

No suspects have been identified in either case, detective Chris Arvayo said.

Campbell was found by a newspaper delivery person Oct. 24 dumped in the middle of East Leonora Street near Lindsay and McKellips roads.

Beck, 21, was found strangled and partially clothed on Nov. 1, 2004, in an alley near Country Club Drive and McLellan Road.

The locations are less than five miles apart.

In both cases, police were unable to develop leads. Officials have not released information about how Campbell was killed.

The two women had a history of drug abuse and prostitution, police said.

Neither Campbell nor Beck had permanent addresses.
