As Pinal County’s population becomes more tech savvy and spread out, county officials are delivering a new Web site they say is user friendly and will help residents more easily access government services and information.
Pinal County’s new Web site and domain name www.pinalcountyaz.gov launched today, and the site has a new look and feel that puts residents and business owners first, said Richard Jones, with the county’s information technology department.
“There really is a concerted effort to make the citizens of Pinal County feel like they’re number one,” Jones said. “This Web site is a great start in showing that to the citizens of Pinal County.”
That effort is shown in tool bars designed for residents, visitors and businesses, county spokeswoman Heather Murphy said.
The site is designed to be more user-friendly and easier to navigate with certain frequently used features and menu tools in the same place no matter where you are on the site, she said.
To get the information on the old site, users had to know which department performed what functions.
“This is, we hope, an organizational framework that will be easier for the user,” Murphy said. “This was something the county made a priority because the old system wasn’t living up to the task anymore.”
The new site, designed in-house, has been more than a year in the making, and the information available prior to the launch is still available along with new features that will be phased in during the coming months.
“To keep the content fresh and build on the site as a powerful information and service tool, we will be adding and modifying the site,” Jones said. “Phase two of this project is turning it into the valuable, feature-rich customer service tool that county leaders want it to become.”
Future features could include demographic services, inspection scheduling, permit applications and interactive geographic information systems so residents won’t always have to make a trip to Florence to do business.
“With the growth of the county, and how large we are, people are driving in to get the services they need — we want to start offering those services on the Web site,” Jones said.
The Web site also features an updated look with photographs of department heads and picturesque scenes from around the county as well as easy-to-find contact information. The sheriff’s office now has an online detention center inmate search.
Last month, the Pinal County Web site had more than 200,000 individual hits, and officials expect that number to increase with the new format and as new services are added.
Pinal County officials ask those using the new site to alert them of problems while they iron out the kinks in the first few days. Send alerts to ||email@example.com||mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org||.
