Hotel managers are hopeful the Lazy River Waterpark inside the Marriott at Desert Ridge Resort in northeast Phoenix will re-open Friday after Tuesday’s heavy rainstorm flooded the water park and three of the resort’s restaurants.
Steven Hayes, the resorts’ director of engineering, said Thursday four to six inches of water flooded the Blue Sage, Roy’s restaurant and the Vista Lounge inside low-level areas of the resort at 5350 E. Marriott Drive, north of Deer Valley Road and west of 56th Street.
The restaurants were closed Tuesday night, but re-opened
Wednesday, Hayes said. However, carpets are still being dried out from the rain, Hayes said.
“The storm flooded the lower parts of the grounds, and it caused water to overflow the water park, which is in the middle of the hotel,” Hayes said.
No dollar estimate of damage from the flooding was available.
