Man arrested in violent Mesa home invasion

Police arrested a man Sunday in connection with kicking down the door of a Mesa home and holding a teen girl at gunpoint with an AK-47 assault rifle.

Daniel Guerra Lopez, 37, who was on parole at the time the crime occurred, was arrested about 4:30 a.m. after the residents of the home he is suspected of breaking into detained him until officers arrived, court records show.

He was booked into Jail on suspicion of first degree burglary, aggravated assault and criminal damage.

An accomplice, who grabbed a 15-year-old girl by the hair and dragged her before pointing a weapon at her escaped and is still at large, records show. A resident of the home pointed a BB gun at the man and he fled.

Lopez is a legal citizen of the U.S., records show.
