The air above the Valley is loaded with water, but the forecast calls for only a slight chance of rain.

Current satellite imagery shows an impressive surge of tropical moisture streaming across the southern half of Arizona. So impressive, the amount of airborne water is at least double the norm for early October.

But there’s no trigger to turn that moisture into rain. Cloud cover is expected to keep today’s temperature in the lower 90s, a little below average for this time of year.

The next decent chance for showers and thunderstorms will occur Thursday, when a weak Pacific system arrives. But even then, the probability of rain is only 20 percent.

The forecast for the coming weekend predicts dry, cooler weather.
