Maricopa County prosecutors have filed a felony criminal complaint against a Mesa man who allegedly tried to feed a kitten to a python and later killed the feline by drop-kicking it.

Authorities said Friday that the complaint accuses 28-year-old Jeremy Tuffly of felony animal cruelty.

County sheriff's deputies arrested Tuffly at his Mesa home on Monday.

He has since been released from custody and has an unlisted phone number.

Tuffly's arrest came after deputies received a DVD of the incident from an unnamed person who knew about it.

The video shows a man the sheriff's office identified as Tuffly smiling while repeatedly and roughly throwing the kitten at a python in a backyard.

It then cuts to a nighttime scene with the man picking up the live kitten from the ground and drop-kicking it. The kitten lands in the middle of a street and sheriff's officials say the feline died.
