On Wednesday, Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Roland Steinle denied Hausner’s request to get it moved, saying the defense team had not proved that intense media coverage of the case has biased potential jurors Valleywide.
In his ruling, Steinle also said the only “inflammatory” publicity during the two years since Hausner was arrested in Mesa came when Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon called him “a monster.” However, that alone was not enough to get the trial moved elsewhere.
Steinle’s ruling said he believes Hausner will be able to get a fair trial in the Valley regardless.
The trial is scheduled to begin with jury selections Sept. 3.
