From family fun to massive block parties, East Valley partygoers have a wide variety of places they can go and celebrate the new year.

U.S. boosts security for New Year's Eve


The Mayor’s New Year’s Eve Party in Gilbert combines the feel of a block party and a high school dance, but without the spiked punch.

The event, expected to draw 3,000 to 4,000 people, kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at Gilbert High School, 1101 E. Elliot Road. Admission is $2 per person or $5 per family.


Rain won’t wash away the glitz and glamour of Scottsdale’s Ultimate Block Party. Coordinators of the event said they are ready to party under tarps if rain comes.

The event is expected to draw 10,000 to 15,000 people, but may lose some of those numbers if rain does fall. Festivities start at 5 p.m. between Third and Fifth avenues and Scottsdale Road and Marshall Way. Admission is $25 at the gate. Partygoers must be at least 21.


Partygoers sporting formal attire, or jeans and a T-shirt, can mingle at Chandler’s Diamonds and Denim Gala. The event starts at 7 p.m. at San Marcos Resort and Conference Center in downtown Chandler. For tickets, call (480) 899-4884.


Named one of the top places in the country to ring in the new year, the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl Block Party features national entertainment, pep rallies, fireworks, carnival rides, food and drinks.

Shuttles will run from 4 p.m. today to 2 a.m. Thursday from Tempe Diablo Stadium at 48th Street and Alameda Drive, and from Pyle Adult Recreational Center at Southern Avenue and Rural Road. Cost is $5 per carload. Parking at Arizona State University lots is $10.

Tickets for the block party can be purchased for $10 with a VIP card at Fry’s grocery stores.

Get a ride home

People who don’t want to drink and drive have numerous options this New Year’s Eve. They include:

Neal’s Cabs, AAA Cab, Yellow Cab, Courier, Checker Cab, TLC and Fiesta: (602) 437-4000. Inebriated revelers who pay for the price of a ride home will be offered a ride back to their vehicle the next day at no additional charge.

Discount Cab: (602) 200-2000. Inebriated revelers also will get a return trip to their vehicle for free for the price of a ride home the night before. of Scottsdale:

(480) 281-1450. New Year’s Eve revelers in Scottsdale can get free rides home from Scottsdale restaurants and nightspots via, an online restaurant, entertainment and professional services information guide.

Desi the Designated Driver: (480) 586-6586. This new Tempe company will pick up inebriated revelers and their vehicles from East Valley party locations. Rates start at $39.
