A burglar tussled with Mesa police Monday after officers found the man hiding with a female companion inside the bedroom of a vacant apartment at 655 S. Mesa Drive, authorities said.
Gabriel A. Kill was arrested on suspicion of burglary and assaulting an officer.
Police spokeswoman Diana Tapia said she did not immediately know what Kill was doing with the woman. As officers attempted to arrest him, Tapia said he pulled away and ran out the front door, causing a Mesa police officer to injure his right thumb.
Kill had a bench warrant for his arrest issued Jan. 30, and bounty hunters were searching for him, court records revealed.
Tapia said officers found Kill hiding in the rear bedroom with Brenda Mondaca. After he fled, a second officer wrestled with him on the upstairs balcony, and they tumbled down the stairs, Tapia said.
Kill continued to struggle and was taken into custody after sustaining injuries to his back and face, Tapia said.
